“Bingo” - Each Monday night (except holidays), at the Senior Center. Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot up to $500. Public invited 12 years and up.
Friday, June 20, 11:30am - 1:00pm - “Covered Dish”, at Council on Aging. Bring your favorite dish for fellowship and fun.
Thursday, June 26, 5:00pm - “Dine Around (Zaxby’s). Please call the Senior Center to reserve seating by Tuesday, June 24.

Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC - June Calendar of Events:
“Camp Mostly Smiles”, Friday, June 20, 9:00am - 3:00pm, at Shelby City Park, 850 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC. This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Professionals trained in grief and loss will facilitate the retreat. Please call one of their Grief Counselors at 704-487-4677 to reserve your space.
“Reflections” Support Group, Wednesday: June 25, 11:30am - 1:00pm, at the Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. This grief sharing group meets for five weeks. No cost to anyone who has lost a loved one. If you plan to attend one of our groups, please make every effort to attend all five sessions. Saturday, June 21 - “South Mountains State Park: The Past, the Present, and the Future”. Join Ranger Waltz at the Visitor Center at 11:00 am for an informative presentation on the history and resources that have shaped South Mountains into the largest state park in North Carolina.
Saturday, June 21 - “NC State Ranger”. What does a Park Ranger do on a day to day basis? Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium at 2:00 pm.
Sunday, June 22 - “Birds: The Good, the Bad, and the Funny”. Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an indoor program and a short hike to identify and to learn more about our feathered friends.
Sunday, June 22, 29 - “Fly Fishing 101” - Get Hooked! Whether you want to learn how to tie flies, develop your casting skills, or discover the joy and challenges of fly fishing for the first time, join anglers Jeff Newton and Bob Tupper at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. All class materials will be provided free, and there will be optional fishing time in the Jacob Fork afterwards. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
Saturday, June 28 - “NC State Ranger”. What does a Park Ranger do on a day to day basis? Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium at 11:00 am.
Sunday, June 29 - “Animals of the South Mountains”. Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center auditorium.
South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18. We welcome the community to join us for our monthly educational interpretive programs. Call the park office at (828) 433-4772 for more information.

Philadelphia Community Organization of Lawndale
Philadelphia Community Organization of Lawndale will host its 16th annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21, 12:00pm until 4:00pm, at 165 Schenck Farm Road, Lawndale, NC. There will be a parade starting at 12:00pm at the intersection Philadelphia Road and Selkirk Drive. Lineup at 11:30am. Activities to include free eye screening by NC Lions Inc. vision van, sponsored by the Lawndale Lions Club; a Classic Auto Show, and Bingo. There will be food and fun for everyone. Broad River Genealogical Society
The Broad River Genealogical Society will be going to the following field trip on June 21, 9:00am. They will leave from the Broad River Achieves Building at 1145 County Home Road. They will be going to the Berry Site in Burke County to observe as Archeologists excavate the Old San Juan Fort. The Spaniards build a Fort in the area in the 1560’s near one of the largest Indian Villages in the New World. The Indian Village was Joara. This was many years before James Town. This is the only time during the year its open to the Public. Everyone is welcome to join them. They are asking for a $5.00 donation and there will be vendors on site for food. Many will be eating at a Family Restaurant on 181 near the site. If you plan to drive park across the Road at the Putnam Baptist Church if you are parking your car and riding with someone park at the Achieves Building.
Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society
Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will meet at June 22, 2:30pm at the Cleveland County Coop Extension Office. This is located at 130 South Post Road in Shelby near Food Lion.
Consulting Rosarians will bring roses and show new members and visitors how to prepare roses for our upcoming Rose Show September 27th at the Cleveland Mall. Community Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Cleveland County Schools
There will be a community Town Hall Meeting to discuss Cleveland County Schools concerning Teachers, Teachers Assistants, to make schools better for students, Monday, June 23, 7:00pm, at Landmark Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1724 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC. Landmark is located between Verizon Wireless in Shelby and the old Walmart. The FLC is behind the church near the softball field.
South Mountain Family Camp Summer Day Camp
South Mountain family Camp, 142 Mace Rd., Casar, NC announces Summer Day Camp for students going into 1st through 6th grade. June 23-27, 9:00-3:00. Only $50 for the whole week. Fallston Fun Fest
The Fallston Fun Fest will be Saturday, June 28, at the Fallston Elementary School, Fallston, NC. 5:00pm - Parade (line up starts at 4:30 on Wilson Rd.); 5:30pm - Opening ceremony; 5:30pm until 8:30pm - Kids games/rides - Armbands $5 (including go fish and duck without armbands, these are a quarter each); Cake Walks; 5:30pm until 7:00pm - DJ with Calvin Hastings; 7:00pm until 10:00pm - Ocean Blvd.; 10:00pm - Fireworks. Cleveland County Animal Control New Hours
The Cleveland County Animal Control has new operational hours. Starting July 1, 2014. The Shelter will open Monday thru Friday from 10:00am til 4:00pm. Entries Needed for Lattimore 4th of July Parade. The Town of Lattimore is looking for individuals and businesses to participate in it’s annual Fourth of July Parade. Antique cars, tractors, churches, civic groups, and many other items and groups will be featured. NFL (Neuter For Life) Draft is a spay/neuter program offered by Association for the Welfare of Animals of Cleveland County in conjunction with Foothills Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic of Hickory. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. Cleveland County Schools Preschool is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year. Office of School Readiness Program is for eligible children, 4 years of age or who will be by August 31, of this year. They will be given priority and 3 year old eligible children will fill any remaining openings. The program is designed for families with low to moderate income, regardless of race, color, age, sec, religion, national origin, special needs or disabling condition. Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC). The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC).
