Mental Health Association
Survivor Suicide Support Group
   Survivors of Suicide Support Group, meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County, this support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss. For details, contact the Mental Health Association at 704-481-8637 or mha@clevelandcountymha.org Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
  Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. Meetings include a business meeting, show and tell, and a program related to quilting. The  June 6th meeting will feature Linda Gunter demonstrating the X Block ruler. South Mountains State Park
      Saturday, June 9 - “The 10 Essentials” - What items should you always carry with you when hiking?  Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn about the “10 Essentials”.  
   Sunday, June 10 - “Animals of the South Mountains” - Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center auditorium.
 Saturday, June 16 - “Tree ID Hike” - Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail.  Tree identification will be the focus of this hike.  Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am.
   Saturday, June 16 - “South Mountains State Park:  The Past, the Present, and the Future”
Join Ranger Waltz at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an informative presentation on the history and resources that have shaped South Mountains into the largest state park in North Carolina.
   Sunday, June 17 - “Bats” Are bats blind?  Do they fly into your hair?  Do they turn into vampires?  Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats.
 Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale
   Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm, now through the summer months. If you enjoy gardening and want to help grow nutritious food for our neighbors - please join us. Cuts 4 Hospice Cut-A-Thon

   Cuts 4 Hospice Cut-A-Thon will be held at Trendsetters, 1632 S. DeKalb St., Shelby on Friday, June 8, 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Haircuts are available in honor of or in memory of your loved one. Carey Heavner Memorial Race
   The Carey Heavner Memorial Race, will be held at the Cleveland County Speedway, 248 Old Stagecoach Rd., Lawndale on June 8. Gates open at 5:00 pm. This race is presented by Cleveland County Speedway in memory Of Carey Heavner, as well as to give support and recognition to the Carey Heavner Foundation.  The first  annual Carey Heavner Memorial t-shirts  and hats will be for sale for this event. This is a family friendly environment and you can expect an evening full of high octane action packed afternoon watching the late model (crate) Race cars in action. There will also be more exciting action in the following Divisions: Limited sportsman, Renegades, Pure Stock V8, Super Stock 4, Extreme 4 FWD, Young Guns. Bring the entire family. Casar Masonic Lodge Charity Motorcycle Ride
   Casar Masonic Lodge Charity Motorcycle Ride will be held on Saturday, June 9, 11:00 a.m. Cost will be $25.00 for a single rider and $35.00 for double. Check in from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Everyone must be back by 4:00 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Masonic Children’s Home and the Masonic and Eastern Star Home. The ride starts and ends at Casar Fire Dept. on NC-10. Drawing for door prizes and food will be served after the ride. All riders will get a shirt. Cancer Benefit/Fundraiser For Stacey Fowler
   A Cancer Benefit/Fundraiser Yard Sale, Bake Sale, Hot Dog Sale and Raffle will be held on Saturday, June 9, starting at 7 a.m. The event will be held at 1417 Red Road, Shelby. Stacey Fowler was diagnosed with Bladder and Prostrate Cancer and had surgery on April 27. The fundraiser is to help him and his family with expenses. These items will be available: Hot dog baskets (2 hot dogs, chips, drink) $4.00; hot dogs $1.00; chips $1.00; canned drinks and bottled water $1.00. Desserts, homemade pies and cakes $2.00. Yard sale stuff priced to sell. Too much to list.
“Reformation In Responsibility” Book Discussion
   A book discussion on the book “Reformation In Responsibility” with author Dr. Rit Varriale will be held on Monday, June 11, 7-9 p.m. at Broad River Coffee Company, Boiling Springs. Sponsored by Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee and the Library of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
Pizza Inn - Keeping The Fight Alive
   Lisa Henderson, an employee of Pizza Inn has recently begun a battle with Bladder cancer. Pizza Inn (who treats their employees, as they do their customers, like family), will hold a fundraiser on Monday, June 11 from 4 p.m.-1 p.m. to support Lisa and to raise money to help with her chemo cost and other hospital expenses. She will receive 10% of the net sales from 4pm-10pm, along with any and all tips. Come and show your support for this event to “Keep the Fight Alive” in Shelby.
Shelby City Park Gymnastic Classes
   Shelby City Park will hold summer gymnastics classes in the form of weekly clinics beginning June 11. Classes are for ages 3 and up for a weekly fee of $40. Shelby City Park Summer Day Camp
   The Shelby City Park Summer Day Camp will begin on Monday, June 11th and run for 10 weeks, ending on Friday, August 17. Camp ages are 5-12 years, as of the first day of camp they are attending. Day Camp hours are from 7:45 a.m. til 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Day Camp will be held at the Shelby City Park. Day Camp fees this year are $80 per week for city residents and $90 per week for all others. Siblings will receive a 10% discount. Camp fees include a camp tee shirt to be worn each Friday on field trips. Examples: Carowinds, skating, movies, bowling and many more. Parents may be responsible for field trip meals and any spending money the child may need. Fees are due on Thursdays in advance for the next week. Weekly calendars will be available on Friday for the next week. At sign-up, parent must bring all items below to avoid a second trip. (1) Completed application form (S); (2) First week’s fees and swim lesson fees - if applicable; (3) Copy of child’s birth certificate (if they did not attend last year); (4) Copy of child’s immunization records. Don’t let your child miss out on a great summer.

Shelby Lions Club Commodity Distribution
   The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing USDA Commodities on June 13 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. Those who wish to come to the fairground on Wednesday, June 13 and fill out an application will need identification and must live in Cleveland County. If a person is unable to come in person, they may send a note with the number in the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income.
Philadelphia Community’s 13th Annual Juneteenth Celebration
   Philadelphia Communities 13th Annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 14th, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 165 Schenck Farm Rd., Lawndale, NC. Crest Charger Horseshoe Club Golf Tournament
   The 16th Annual Crest Charger Horseshoe Club Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 15th, 1:30 p.m. at RiverBend Golf Club. We will be giving away lots of prizes including $1000 to gross winners and $500 to net winners plus Cancun Vacation Package to Flight Winners of Both Divisions. We’re also offering a chipping and putting contest package that includes a free three night hotel getaway. Cost for this package is $30. Please note this package is optional and does not include mulligans or red tees. See attachment. The format will be three player team captain’s choice. See attachment. 60 -69 yrs of age play senior tees, ladies,  juniors (middle school and younger), 70 and older, play super seniors most forward tees. 10th Annual Bruce Ward Memorial Golf Tournament, KM Country Club
   The 10th Annual Bruce Ward Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 16 at the Kings Mountain Country Club. It will be a Captain’s Choice tournament with the proceeds going to the Shriner’s Hospitals. Hole sponsorships are still available. This tournament is held to enable the White Plains Shrine Club to continue its work in helping burned and crippled children.    Grover Rescue Squad will hold a Pork BBQ sale on Saturday, June 16th, from 11am to 2pm, 107 N. Main Street Grover. Costs: Whole Butt, slaw and sauce for $30. Habitat For Humanity
   The Habitat for Humanity in Cleveland County ReStore will be having an outdoor yard sale on Saturday, June 16th. The sale will start at 8 am and will end at 2 pm. A HFH ReStore is a fundraising division of Habitat for Humanity. HFH ReStores sell donated materials such as new and gently used furniture, house wares, building supplies, and miscellaneous items to the public. Profits from the ReStores go directly to help build homes locally (10 % of undesignated funds go to HFH International to build homes globally). The current home we are building is on Cottonwood Dr in Shelby and sponsored by the Shelby Breakfast, Shelby Lunch, and Boiling Springs Rotary Clubs. This will be the twenty-fifth home built by Habitat for Humanity in Cleveland County since its incorporation in Dec. 1987.
Hospice, Cleveland County
   Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby  will hold the following events:
   “Reflections” Sharing Group - A grief sharing group will meet for six weeks, Tuesdays, June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17 and 24, 5:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m.  in the Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building.No cost to anyone who has lost a loved one. Please RSVP to ext. 166 if you plan to attend.
Lattimore Parade Entries Needed
   The Town of Lattimore is welcoming entries for the annual Fourth of July Parade to be held at 9 am on Wednesday, July 4th. Tractors, antique cars, horses, bikes, floats, and other entries are encouraged to participate. The town is also looking for veterans from World War II, the Korean conflict, and Vietnam to ride on a veterans float to honor our military.
