Lincoln County Senior Games
Senior Games are coming to Lincoln County in 2017. Visit the informational meeting to learn more and to try out some of the games that will be offered. The meeting will be Thursday, June 9, 2016, 10:00am - 12:00pm, at Howards Creek Community Center, 394 Howard's Creek School Rd., Lincolnton, NC 28093. Sports to include: Archery, Basketball Shooting, Billiards, Bocce, Bowling, Cornhole, Croquet, Football Throw, Golf, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Softball Throw, Tennis, and more! Silverparts to include: Visual Arts (Photography, Drawing, Watercolor), Literary Arts (Essays, Short Stories, Poetry), Performing Arts (Dance, Comedy, Vocal), and Heritage Arts (Pottery, Crocheting, Knitting, Woodcarving) and more! Shelby High School Class of 1955
Shelby High School Class of 1955 will hold a monthly get together on the second Friday of each month at Ichiban's Buffet on East Dixon Blvd. in Shelby, NC. Lincoln County Historical Assn.
The Lincoln County Historical Association and Crouse Community Photo and History Project are pleased to host the first book signing for Robert C. Carpenter and his newly published book, "Gaston County, North Carolina in the Civil War," from McFarland Press of Jefferson, North Carolina. Retired principal Robert C. Carpenter will be signing books that will be available for purchase, as well as giving a brief presentation and Q & A. Carpenter is an adjunct professor at Belmont Abbey College and the president and editor of Footprints in Time, the bulletin for the Gaston Lincoln Genealogical Society. He lives in Bessemer City, North Carolina. Admission is free. This event will be held in the Lincoln Cultural Center Art Galleries on Friday, June 10, 2016, from 6:30-8:00pm. The Shelby Lions Club
The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing USDA Commodities on June 15, 2016 at the Cleveland County Fairground. Those who wish to come and fill out an application on that day must live in Cleveland County. If a person is unable to come in person, they may send a note stating the number in the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income of the household. The commodities for June are as follows: Canned chicken, canned corn, Cranberry juice, concentrate, dried cranberries, Great Northern beans, orange juice, peanut butter, pears, peas, canned pork, raisins, canned salmon, spaghetti, walnuts, 10 lb. package of quartered chicken, and frozen orange juice.

Camp Mostly Smiles - This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6-16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop - Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Please call one of our Grief Counselors at 704-487-4677 to reserve your space. Third Tuesday of each month, alternating locations. "Reflections" Sharing Group - This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. The Town of Waco
The Town of Waco will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, June 20, 2016. The meeting will be held at 222 AW Black Street-WacoTown Hall. Meeting is to discuss 2016-2017 Budget.
The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group, formerly called the Cleveland County Post-Polio Support Group, will hold a meeting on Monday, June 20, 2016, at 6:00pm at the conference room of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby, NC. The conference room is located at the back of the building. The center is located off Hwy 18 North on Life Enrichment Blvd, just north of Cornerstone Dentistry. Todd Putnam will give the program on Archeology. Each person attending should bring his/her own meal. Drinks: coffee and water - will be provided. If you are a polio survivor and would like to attend, they would love to see you there! Feel free to bring a caregiver with you.
