Piecemakers Quilt Guild
 “Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. Meetings include a business meeting, show and tell, and a program related to quilting. South Mountains State Park
   Saturday, March 17 - “The 10 Essentials” - What items should you always carry with you when hiking?  Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 11:00 am to learn about the “10 Essentials”.  
   Saturday, March 17  - “South Mountains State Park:  The Past, the Present, and the Future” - Join Ranger Waltz at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an informative presentation on the history and resources that have shaped South Mountains into the largest state park in North Carolina.
   Sunday, March 18 - “Skulls & Skins” - Drop by between 2-3:00 pm and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
   Saturday, March 24 - “Streamside Hike ”  - Join a Park Ranger for an easy walk to learn more about the Jacob Fork River.  We’ll talk about watersheds, common plants and animals, and water quality.  Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am.
   “Tree ID Hike” - Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail.  Tree identification will be the focus of this hike.  Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 2:00 pm.

 KMLT Presents School House Rock, Live, Jr.


  The Emmy® Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series is now the basis for one of the most fun, energetic, and entertaining musicals ever to hit the KMLT stage!  Come and join the fun and sing along as the cast of 24 talented young actors brings to life the series that taught history, grammar, math, science, and politics through clever, tuneful songs. Kings Mountain Little Theatre will present “School House Rock Live! Jr.” on Fridays and Saturdays, March16, and 17 at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Sundays, March 11 and 18 at 3:00 PM at the Joy Performance Center.  Tickets are a family-friendly $5 each. Reservations may be placed at 704-730-9408, but must be entered by the day before the performance you wish to attend. Reserved tickets must be picked up by 15 minutes before show-time, or they will be released back for general admission sale. While “Schoolhouse Rock” feeds the minds and imagination of children, some of our local children
 need more - so non-perishable food items will be collected at each performance for donation to the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry. Kings Mountain Little Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer-based community theater.  KMLT is funded in part by a Grassroots Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and is a funded affiliate of the Cleveland County Arts Council. Wendy Walega, is the Director and Teresa Hopper is the Music Director.
Shelby City Park Lifeguard Training Course

   The Shelby City Park will hold a Lifeguard Training Course at the Shelby High School Pool. Thurs. March 15 - 5:30-8:30pm; Sat. March 17- 9am-2pm/ Sun. March 18- 2pm-5pm. Everyone needs to be at every class. Must be 15 years of age.  Cost:  $125.00/ Due after the pre-swim on Fri. March 9. Includes Red Cross Lifeguard Book and Rescue Mask. If renewing certification and have Rescue Mask cost $80.00. (Please note new lifeguard material as of Jan. 2012) If you want to purchase a book total cost:  $110.00. Lifeguard certification and CPR-PR are both good for  two years. Deadline:  Friday, February 24 to sign-up call or come by the park office (704-484-6811).  The pre-swim test (www.redcross.org) will be on Fri. March 9 starting at 3:30pm at SHS Pool or at other scheduled time when signing up for class.  Once you pass the pre-swim, class will begin on Sat. Fish Fry For Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
   A Fish Fry for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be held on March 17  at 2610 Prosp Ch Rd Mooresboro NC. The event will be held  In honor of Blake Scruggs 13 yrs old. Model Field R/C Airplane Show, Cleveland Mall
   Moore Field R/C Flyers is having a model display show at the Cleveland Mall center stage on Saturday March 17th, 9A.M - 6P.M. Come check out the airplanes and try the flying simulator. They are a local flying club that offers experience for beginners to expert R/C pilots.
Dementia Support Group, Life Enrichment Center
   Are you caring for an adult? Do you have questions about legal issues? Attorney Jeannette Reeves will answer questions about legal issues in a  program for caregivers Tuesday, March 20, at Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care in Shelby. The program is free of charge and open to anyone. A free sitter service is available for the person with dementia, but a reservation is required by March 13 for the sitter service by calling 704.484.0405.No reservation is required to attend the meeting which begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends by 7 p.m., but the meeting is informal so come late or leave early if need be. NAMI, Rutherford County Mental Illness
Family Support Group
   The Mental Illness Family Support Group is new to Cleveland County and will be held on Tuesday, March 20th, always on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month 6:30 - 8:00 PM at Cleveland County Red Cross Building, 1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC. Do not park in the breezeway. Please park in the parking lot. Look for the Sign with NAMI or MHA Meets Here! Enter at the 3rd Double Doors in breezeway. This Family Support Group is specifically geared to the parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings, adult children and close relatives of persons suffering from severe and persistent mental illnesses.The illnesses covered are: Depression (unipolar), Manic Depression (bipolar), Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and other neurobiological brain disorders. These meetings are confidential and a safe place to talk with other families members going through the same experiences.  They  Are Families Helping Families!  Eagle Scout Project BBQ Fundraiser
   An Eagle Scout project fundraiser for Johnson Binion will be held on Saturday, March 24, 12 pm to 7 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Boiling Springs.  “All you can eat” Harry McKee’s famous BBQ Saturday, $10.00 per person. Eat in or carry out. Johnson is constructing a cross country course for Shelby Middle School. Proceeds from the BBQ will go toward his project.
Hospice Training Class
 Hospice Cleveland County will offer training classes during the month of March. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about Hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12 hour course is free and there is no obligation to volunteer. The classes will be held at Hospice Cleveland County Administrative Building. 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC. Mon., March 19, Tues., March 20th and Thurs., March 22, 2012 from 5:30 until 9:30pm. To get credit for the course,  you will  need to  attend all three days. Cleveland County Elementary Honors Chorus
   Cleveland County Schools will present the Cleveland County Elementary Honors Chorus, featuring 125 select students from the following Schools: Bethware, Boiling Springs, Casar, East, Elizabeth, Fallston, Grover, Kings Mountain Intermediate, North, Marion Intermediate, Springmore, Township Three, Union, Washington, and West. Performance Date is Saturday, March 31 at Barnes Auditorium at Kings Mountain High School, at 6:30 pm. The event is directed by select music teachers of Cleveland County Schools. Come and enjoy this awesome musical experience.
Commonweath Gifts & Accessories
 Commonwealth Gifts & Accessories, sponsored by Kings Mtn. Hospital Auxiliary will hold an Accessories & Gift Sale on Wednesday, March 28, 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.  There will be selections of: Seasonal flags, fashion sunglasses, fashion jewelry, initialized accessories, handbags, personalized embroidered items and much more. There will be on site monogramming available at the show. They accept cash, check, Visa & Mastercard. Proceeds go to community charities. The event will be held in the lobby of Kings Mountain Hospital, 706 W. King St., Kings Mtn.
Shelby City Park 2012 Baseball Sign-Ups
  Sign-ups for baseball (league ages 8-17 years) will be held now through Friday March 30th.  Sign-up hours are 8:30 am - 5:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. Special sign-up day will be Saturday March 24th from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sign-ups include Pee Wee Baseball (8-10 yrs.), Little Tar Heel Baseball (11 & 12 yrs.), Junior Tar Heel Baseball (13 & 14 yrs.) and Senior Tar Heel Baseball (15 –17 yrs.).  League ages are as of May 1st, 2012.   When signing-up a player must have a parent or guardian present and a copy of their birth certificate, if they did not play in the league last year.   A  $22 registration fee if player lives inside the city limits of Shelby or a $37 registration fee for all others is also required at sign-up.   Both new and returning players must sign-up in order to be eligible to participate!  Players involved with AAU or USSSA are welcome to register and play with City Park Leagues.
T-Ball/Coach Pitch sign-ups (ages 5, 6 & 7 years) will be held Monday February 20th through Friday, May 4th. League ages and registration requirements are the same as those above. For more info call the Park Office at 704-484-6811 or visit us on the web @ www.cityofshelby.com/parks
Rose Bush Pruning, Cleveland Lincoln Rose Society
   The Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society will be pruning the rose bushes at the Charles R. Jonas Library in Lincolnton on Saturday March 17 at 2:30 pm. The Rose Society members will prune the bushes, clean the rose beds and fertilize the bushes.  Anyone is welcome to observe and learn what to do with your rose bushes.  Consulting Rosarians will be available to answer your rose questions.The Library is located 306 West Main Street and the parking lot and rose garden are at the back of the Library on West Sycamore Street.  In case of rain, the event will be moved to March 24 at 2:30 pm.
Habitat For Humanity Volunteer Appreciation Day
   The Habitat For Humanity (HFH) in Cleveland County ReStore is having a Volunteer Appreciation Day on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11 am until 1 pm, to honor its active ReStore volunteers. Light refreshments and door prizes will be given to our dedicated active ReStore volunteers. Wal-Mart DC #6070 with be honored with a plaque at 11:30 am to show appreciation for their volunteerism and VAP (Volunteerism Always Pays) grant program. The ReStore is a fundraising division of Habitat for Humanity in Cleveland County. The ReStore sells donated materials such as new and gently used furniture, house wares, building supplies, and miscellaneous items to the public. Profits from the ReStore go directly to help build homes right here in Cleveland County (10 % of undesignated funds go to HFH International to build homes globally). The current home they are building is on Cottonwood Dr in Shelby and sponsored by the Rotary Club. Much work has already been completed. This will be the twenty-fifth home built by Habitat for Humanity in Cleveland County since its incorporation in Dec 1987.  They do not build the house FOR a family; they build it WITH them. We find that this reinforces a sense of pride and ownership with each family. The family pays for the house with a no interest mortgage. They hope and pray that God will continue to bless them in Cleveland County so that we can help many more families become homeowners!

Carey Heavner Foundation Golf Tournament
   The 2nd Annual Carey Heavner Foundation (captains choice) Golf tournament will be held at Deer Brook Golf Club, 210 Deer Brook Dr., Shelby. Tee-off 1:00 PM. Entry Fee: $240.00 per 4 man team(Includes:green fees,cart) and hickory smoked B-B-Q following the event. Prizes: A Brand new Car will  be given away to the 1st hole in one as well as other prizes. Every participant will also receive a free golf tournament T-Shirt.
