DASG - Depression Anxiety Support Group

Hospice Volunteer Training Class, Monday, April 9, Tuesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 12, 2018, 9:00am - Noon or 5:30pm - 8:30pm, Hospice Administration Building. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. To get credit for the entire course, you will need to attend all days at one of the times offered or call to schedule a time to complete the training. Online training is also available by calling 704-751-3547.
National Pet Therapy Day - Wednesday, April 11, 2018, 4:00pm - 6:00pm. You and your Therapy Dog are invited to join Hospice for a drop-in celebrating National Pet Therapy Day.
Widowed Support Group - The death of a spouse has been identified as one of the greatest stresses a person can experience. Coping with the emotional upheaval and social adjustment that this crisis brings can be overwhelming and incapacitating. You don't have to go through this journey alone. Please join us each Thursday as we talk about ways to deal with the devastation of grief and the tremendous silence a loss like this can leave behind. Learn ways to cope while gaining the energy and ideas for your path to a new life. Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 9:00am - Noon or 4:00pm - 7:00pm, Hospice Administration Building. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. CC Special Olympics and GWU SAAC Hosts Fundraiser, Shelby
The Gardner-Webb University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which is a group comprised of student athletes that serve as team representatives to provide insight into the student-athlete experience on campus, within conference, and at the national level, have partnered with the Cleveland County Special Olympics to assist in helping them raise funds for their trip to the U.S. Games this summer in Seattle. They will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday, April 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Shelby, NC, which will be a paid dinner and& a silent auction. All of the money raised will go to the CCSO. Lincoln County Parks & Recreation
Lincoln County Parks and Recreation Office, 206 Gamble Dr., 1st Floor (With the Veterans Admin. Office) Lincolnton, NC, will be holding their Spring Break Camp again this year on April 2-6, 2018. Camp is for Kindergarden-6th graders and is being held at East Lincoln Community Center in Denver, and at Howard's Creek. Camp will include fun activities, arts and crafts, field trips and more! Lincoln County Farmers markets will officially open for the season on Saturday, April 7, 2018. The Lincolnton Market is located at the Water St. shelter and the Denver Market is located at Rescue Squad Park, off of Galway ln, across from Lincoln Charter School. Both markets will be open Saturdays from 8am to 12pm. The market at DSS in Lincolnton will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 10, 2018. City of Shelby Spring Bulky Item Pick-up
The City of Shelby Solid Waste Department is having the Spring Bulky Item Pick-up the week of April 16-19, 2018. Beginning on April 13, you may begin placing items such as: furniture, boxes, mattresses, and bagged clothes, etc., on the curbside without being subject to citations of fines. Please DO NOT place any items in the street or mix these items with limbs, leaves or grass. The Solid Waste Department does not pick-up items such as appliances, electronics, televisions, tires, building materials, paints, oils, and batteries. These items may be taken to the Cleveland County Landfills. Please have your bulky items available by 7:00am, they will be picked up only on the same day during the week that your garbage is scheduled for pick up. Items placed or left on the curb after April 19 will be subject to citations and fines. There will be no leaf or brush collection during bulky item pick up week
Habitat for Humanity Cleveland County
Habitat is taking initial applications for its 2018 Home Build now through April 15, 2018. The applicant must be able to make no interest house payments of $475 to $550 a month, must have a real need for better housing, must live in Cleveland County, and must be willing to partner with Habitat by completing "sweat equity" on the home and by attending Homeowner Workshops. The typical Habitat home has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and is approximately 1100 square feet. Applications may be picked up at the Habitat ReStore, 323 W. Grover St., Shelby or to receive an application by mail, call the Habitat office at 704-482-6200. In order to be considered, completed initial applications must be received by the Habitat office no later than April 15, 2018. Habitat is an Equal Housing Opportunity organization.
Old Paths Farm
Old Paths Farm will host a day camp for children ages 6-12. Two sessions-June 25-29 or July 16-20; M-F 9:00-2:00. Children will help with feeding and caring for pigs, cows, chickens, and horses. They will engage in various activities involved with sustainable farming, including brush management, water control, grass usage, and other aspects of proper stewardship. Campers will keep a journal of daily activities, and will have opportunities to participate in team building games and challenges. Lillie is a special 3 year old with type 1 diabetes. She needs a Diabetic Alert Dog to signal when blood sugar levels are in a danger zone.
