Cleveland Community College will be having a “Spring Concert” on May 22, 7:00pm, at the Cleveland Community College Amphitheater. It is a Memorial Day Concert, featuring the Crest Band, the Crest Jazz band and Crest Rock Band. It is a free concert. Dairy Queen will be set up there to sell food.

“Bird Walk”, May 24, 8:30am. An easy walk to look and listen for birds at the river. Discover different types of birds and their habitats. Bring binoculars, if you have them. “Fly Fishing 101” - Sunday, May 25. Get Hooked! Cast your line in one of the state’s most pristine mountain trout streams at South Mountains State Park. Whether you want to learn how to tie flies, develop your casting skills, or discover the joy and challenges of fly fishing for the first time, join anglers Jeff Newton and Bob Tupper at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Jeff and Bob are instructors with Project Healing Waters and are members of Trout Unlimited. All class materials will be provided free, and there will be optional fishing time in the Jacob Fork afterwards. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18. We welcome the community to join us for our monthly educational interpretive programs. Call the park office at (828) 433-4772 for more information.

5th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride
The 5th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride will be Saturday, May 31. The ride will equally benefit The Masonic Home for Children and Whitestone. Sign in by 11:30am. Bikes leave at 12:00pm. Somerset Court, 401 West Academy St., Cherryvile, NC, will be having a “Spring Fest” Saturday, June 7, 1:00pm - 3:00pm. They will be selling hot dogs, chips, drinks and dessert. For entertainment there will be music from the 50’s and up by Tony D. King, Sr. There will also be face painting, games and animal balloons for the kids, and a pie baking contest to those of you who think you have talent in baking. Cost to enter is $5. All money that is raised will go to our residents the residents and their needs. A blue ribbon will be given to the best pie. They will be raffling off gifts and asks for donations.

Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC). The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County. This group is not intended for those who have personally survived a suicide attempt.
