Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters. Kiwanis Club, Shelby
        Kiwanis Club of Shelby meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Deer Brook Restaurant, 201 Deer Brook Drive, Shelby. 704-482-4419. Membership dues are $110 per quarter which includes meals and dues.
NAMI Rutherford Cleveland
        The National Alliance on Mental Illness/Rutherford Cleveland hosts a Mental Illness Family Support Group, always on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 7:00-8:15pm., Cleveland County Red Cross Building, 1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC. This Family Support Group is specifically geared to the parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings, adult children and close relatives of persons suffering from severe and persistent mental illnesses. The illnesses covered are: Depression (unipolar), Manic Depression (bipolar), Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and other neurobiological brain disorders. These meetings are confidential and a safe place to talk with other families members going through the same experiences. We Are Families Helping Families! Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Shelby
        DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support. The support group meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church in Shelby. Solid Rock Community Garden in Lawndale

Cleveland County Library, Shelby
        THROUGH THE GARDEN GATE…Spend your lunch hour at the library and feed your mind! The Main Library in Shelby is continuing the series of programs for our community that will give folks a chance to spend their lunch hour being entertained. The idea is to bring your bag lunch and the library will provide water, tea and a great program. The programs will be held in the Plaster Meeting Room and you can “come through the garden gate” entrance. The programs will be on the first & third Thursdays of every month from 12:15-12:45 and will feature stories, music and educational topics.
        The Library Book Club meets the second Thursday of every month from 10:30am - 12:00 noon. The book for the month of April is “The Round House” by Louise Erdrich. Everyone is invited.
    Singles Dinner Group, Shelby
        Singles 50 and over meet for dinner the first Friday of the month at Golden Coral, Shelby, at 6:00pm.  We participate in dancing and other monthly activities.  We invite new members to come join us.  For more info call 704-406-9166.
Belwood Day and Scout Show
         Belwood Day and Scout Show to be held Saturday, May 25 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the Old Belwood School. Enjoy a flag demonstration, live music, antique car show, Ham radio, and much more! Events are open to the public. Food available on site. Belwood Heritage Museum will be open during the event. Fun and games for all ages! Upper Cleveland Bulldog Football and Cheer Signups
         Upper Cleveland Bulldog Football and Cheer Signups will be held on the following dates: 06/16/2013, 08/01/13 and from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Piedmont Community Center in Lawndale. Additionally sign up date will be held on 08/03/2013 from 9:00am - 11:00am at the Piedmont Community Center in Lawndale. Registration fee $75 for football, please bring a copy of your childs birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for cheerleading.          South Mountains State Park, 3001 South Mountains Park Avenue,  Connelly Springs, NC will have these Upcoming Environmental Programs:
        Saturday, May 25 - “Streamside Hike” Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am for a streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.
        Saturday, May 25 - “The 10 Essentials” What items should you always carry with you when hiking?  Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn about the “10 Essentials”.
        Sunday, May 26 - “Birds: The Good, the Bad, and the Funny”  Join a Park Ranger fat the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an indoor program and a short hike to identify and to learn more about our feathered friends.
        Saturday, June 1 - “Hike, Bike & Ride event for National Trails Day”. Hike, bike or ride the designated trails of your choice. To be eligible for an award participants must register between 8:00 and 10:00am and then hike, bike or horseback ride to a backcountry check-in station. Participants must complete the return trip to claim their reward. Route loops are moderate to strenuous and will vary from 3 miles to 18 miles. This event is free and open to the public.             South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18.  We welcome the community to join us for our monthly educational interpretive programs.  Call the park office at (828) 433-4772 for more information.
Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Heatlh Service, Shelby
         The next meeting of the family caregivers at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby, will have Pat Snyder, author of Treasures in the Darkness sharing insights about extending the early stage of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease Tuesday, May 28, at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. Her husband’s diagnosis combined elements of both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. She says there is hope; caregivers can make everyday life better. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Cleveland County Tennis Association
         A benefit tennis tournament, Tennis Under the Stars, hosted by Cleveland County Tennis Association and Boiling Springs Tennis Teams will be held at the Gardner Webb Tennis courts on May 24, at 6:00pm. Community Empowerment Awareness Event, Forest City

Cherryville Little Theatre
        Cherryville Little Theatre is auditioning for the summer production of 2013 Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr. Production dates are August 9-11. Rehearsals will take place Monday-Friday, July 22nd-August 9th, from 9AM-3PM. Auditions are Sunday, June 2 and Monday, June 3. The cast will consist of students ages 13-18 with the exception of the character of “Chip” who can be as young as 9. There is an $80 registration fee, which covers the cost of cast shirt, rehearsal CD, scripts and cast party.         Cleveland County Head Start, Office of School Readiness, is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year for the following schools: Bethware Elementary, Boiling Springs Elementary, East Elementary, Graham Elementary, James Love Elementary, Washington Elementary, Casar Elementary, Fallston Elementary, Grover Elementary, Marion Elementary, North Elementary, Township Three Elementary. Office of School Readiness: This program is for eligible children, 4 years of age or who will be by August 31, of this year. They will be given priority and 3 year old eligible children will fill any remaining openings. The program is designed for families with low to moderate income, regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, special needs or disabling condition.
