May 27, 2017 - "Streamside Hike". Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am for a streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.
May 27, 2017 - Wilderness Survival 101". Wilderness Survival 101 will cover basic survival information as covered in the Boy Scouts of America handbook. Topics covered will include basic first aid, shelter and others based on class interest and instructor discretion. Program will be presented by park volunteer, Jeff Newton, who also teaches Fly Fishing 101 and has a great deal of experience in the outdoors. Program is free and open to the public. Meet at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm.
May 28, 2017 - "Knot Tying 101". Knot tying is a fundamental skill for many tasks. Whether you are a beginning climber, backpacker or just want to learn a few knots. Join a Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm.
May 28, 2017 - "Fly Fishing 101". Get Hooked! Join angler Jeff Newton at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Jeff is an instructor with Project Healing Waters and is a member of Trout Unlimited. All class materials will be provided free. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
June 3, 2017 - "National Trails Day". We will be hosting a National Trails Day work day from 9:00-12:00. We have a job for everyone no matter what your skill level is. Pre-registration is required for this event by May 29th. Please call 828-433-4772 to register or for more information.

Hospice Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at Fatz Cafe, 235 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC, Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 8am - 10am! Stop in and help support Hospice Cleveland County. Benefit Fundraiser for Downs Family, Casar
Corinth Baptist Church 324 Corinth Church Road, Casar, NC, will hold a Benefit Fundraiser Saturday, May 27, 2017, 4:00pm until, for Randy, Sherry, and Stephen Downs of Casar, NC. Randy had a kidney removed due to cancer in May of 2017. He has been diagnosed with cancer again and had surgery on Friday, May 5. He will possible need chem and/or radiation this time. Friends, family, and Corinth Baptist Church will sponsor a pinto bean supper in order to raise funds to assist his family in paying the mounting medical bills. Shelby High School Class of 1977 Reunion
The Shelby High School Class of 1977 40th Anniversary Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Don Gibson Theatre, 318 S. Washington Street, Shelby, NC, from 7:00pm until midnight. The State Theater was renamed The Don Gibson Theatre in honor of the famous Shelby native known for his songwriting skills. There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, and Mr. Dick Hamrick (their chemistry teacher!) will be the DJ. Cost is $30 per person before July 31, 2017.
