NAMI Rutherford-Cleveland
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Rutherford-Cleveland County will have their May meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2015, in the Crawford Building at Rutherford Regional Hospital. The board will meet at 6:15pm followed by a public meeting at 7:00pm. Mental health needs in the community and making plans for upcoming months will be discussed. Resources and ideas in a support group style setting will be informally shared. All are welcome.

"Reflections" Support Group, Thursdays, May 28 and June 4, 2015, 11:30am - 1:00pm. This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. If you plan to attend one of our groups, please make every effort to attend all six sessions. Registration forms are available at HCC Administrative Offices or by calling 704-487-4677.
Greater Shelby Community Theatre
The Greater Shelby Community Theatre will hold auditions for Treasure Island, a tale of one young boy's adventure on the high seas, on Friday-Sunday, May 29-31, 2015, in the basement of the CC Arts Council, S. Washington St., Shelby, NC. Friday and Saturday auditions are from 6:00-9:00pm; Sunday auditions are 2:30-5:30pm. The play is based on the adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and has roles for 15-20 actors and actresses, ranging in age from teens to older adults. The play is directed by Jim Chandler, a local actor and director with Gastonia Little Theatre and GSCT. Actors will be asked to read from the script. Questions? Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council
There will be a multi-family yard sale on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 7:00-10am at 407 W. Warren St., Shelby, NC. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council. The yard sale will feature baby clothes and accessories, children's clothes, toys, adult clothing, household goods, jewelry, video games, electronics, and more!
Casar's Veterans Memorial
Casar's Veterans Memorial is in the works! They need your help! Please let them know of any Veterans in Casar, NC. This includes any war, or no war, and active military. They must have live in Casar at some point in their life. (If they haven't lived in Casar, they can still be on the Memorial for a small fee of $25). Broad River Genealogical Society, 1145 County Home Rd., Shelby, NC will be looking back to honor our military ancestors on "Heritage Day", Saturday, May 30, 2015, 10:00am - 4:00pm. Drop in: eat a hotdog, share your ancestors, converse with friends, win a door prize, laugh and have fun.
Cleveland County Arts Council
The Cleveland County Arts Council presents Chalk Fest, a fun, family friendly, sidewalk chalk drawing event partnership with Uptown Shelby Association. Sign up today for an individual square to decorate with chalk. Organizations, adults and children are welcome. Registration. $10 organization, $5 individual. Please register by June 8, 2015. Registration on the day of the event will also be available, as space permits. Rain or shine. No refunds available. A chalk contest for the best drawing will be judged after 12:30pm. Cash prizes for best in category. Prizes are $150 cash for adult and organization and $50 cash prize for best in youth category. Check-in and day of registration begins at 9:00am. All chalk art must be completed before judging begins at 12:30pm. Check-in table will be located at The Cleveland County Arts Council, 111 S. Washington St., Shelby, NC. Competition area will be on the Court Square. Subject to change. Only one approved 2'x3' sidewalk square is allowed per person. Space is limited, so preregistration is recommended. Chalk will be provided at check-in table. Participants may bring their own chalk or purchase additional chalk at the registration table. Please: No Oil Based chalk and no sealants. Subject matter must be appropriate for all ages and audiences. CCAC will be the final arbiters. Group entries are welcome; please choose one name for the organization registration. Please, no more than 4 artists per organization. Make sure to bring water, sunscreen, hat, knee pads, paper towels, all tools, and/or plastic to cover your square if necessary. Judges include area youth, business owners, and community leaders.
Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.

Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. The purpose of al-anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone who is affected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend. Hot Dog Lunch Fundraiser for Tammy Walker
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 3932 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Shelby, NC, will be holding a Hot Dog Lunch Fundraiser and bake sale for Tammy Walker on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 11:30am to 1:30pm, at the church, to help with some of her medical expenses. Tammy has been battling cancer for some time now. Hotdog plate includes (2 hotdogs), drink, chips, and dessert for $6.
Benefit Fundraiser for Jennifer Franklin
Crossroads Baptist Church will sponsor a benefit fundraiser Saturday, June 13, 2015, for Jennifer Franklin to help with numerous medical expenses. Yard sale begins at 8:00am; hot dog sale and bake sale begin at 11:00am in Fallston, at Stamey's old store building.
