        Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will tour the McGill Rose Garden, May 31, located 940 N. Davidson Street in Charlotte, NC. The McGill Rose Garden contains over 1000 roses, plants and herbs. 5th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride
        The 5th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride will be Saturday, May 31. The ride will equally benefit The Masonic Home for Children and Whitestone. Sign in by 11:30am. Bikes leave at 12:00pm. All bikes must return by 4:00pm. Will start and stop at Casar Fire Department, 5765 Casar Rd., Casar, NC. $20 per bike, $10 for extra shirts (one free t-shirt per bike).         Hypertufa Garden Planters. Learn to make garden ornaments, pots, planters and pavers with Hyypertufa, a mixture of cement, sand and peat moss. You’ll take home your project. Somerset Court, Cherryville
        Somerset Court, 401 West Academy St., Cherryvile, NC, will be having a “Spring Fest” Saturday, June 7, 1:00pm - 3:00pm. They will be selling hot dogs, chips, drinks and dessert. For entertainment there will be music from the 50’s and up by Tony D. King, Sr. There will also be face painting, games and animal balloons for the kids, and a pie baking contest to those of you who think you have talent in baking. Cost to enter is $5. All money that is raised will go to our residents the residents and their needs. A blue ribbon will be given to the best pie. They will be raffling off gifts and asks for donations.

VFW Post 9811, Kings Mountain/Cherryville
        The VFW Post 9811, 3800 Margrace Road in Kings Mountain, NC will have The VFW NC State Veterans Service Office there on June 9, at 6:30 with Cleo Summers there to help answer questions on Veterans Concerns and Changes in the VA Law. Cleo will also meet in private with any veteran that needs a problem resolved. All Veterans are invited.

Kings Mountain National Military Park, Blacksburg
  The Kings Mountain National Military Park, Blacksburg, SC will hold a benefit concert in their amphitheater on June 14, 8:00 pm,  featuring David Childers and The Overmountain Men. Proceeds benefit the Brigade of Friends, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 2000 to work with the National Park Service to provide support and funding for special projects at Kings Mountain National Military Park that aid in preserving the Park’s cultural and military history, protecting the Park’s environmental integrity, and enhancing the enjoyment of the Park by visitors and area residents. The KMNMP amphitheater seats 300; tickets are available now for $20. David Childers and The Overmountain Men are a local group of performers from Belmont, NC. The band is named after the militiamen who helped American forces win the battle of Kings Mountain in 1780. Tickets are available at all Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce offices, Gaston County Chamber of Commerce, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce in Gaffney, SC, and from any member of the Brigade of Friends.
Philadelphia Community Organization of Lawndale
   Philadelphia Community Organization of Lawndale will host its 16th annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21, 12:00pm until 4:00pm, at 165 Schenck Farm Road, Lawndale, NC. There will be a parade starting at 12:00pm at the intersection Philadelphia Road and Selkirk Drive. Lineup at 11:30am. Activities to include free eye screening by NC Lions Inc. vision van, sponsored by the Lawndale Lions Club; a Classic Auto Show, and Bingo. There will be food and fun for everyone. Broad River Genealogical Society, Shelby
   There will be a field trip for all members and guests of Broad River Genealogical Society to the Berry Archeological Dig in Burke County Saturday June 21. This will be the only time you can visit the dig on the 21st when its open to the public. San Juan Fort is being dug up by Archeologists from several different Colleges. The Fort was build by the Spaniards when they explored the region in the 1560’s or 40 years before James Town Virginia. The old Indian settlement or Joara was located near the Fort in the 1500’s.  Meet at the Broad River Building, 1145 County Home Road, Shelby NC. Park your car at Broad River if you are not driving. People that are driving meet across the road at Putnam Church to car pool. They will try to leave around 9:00 or a few mins after and drive to Morganton. There will also be vendors on the site. There is also a family Restaurant on 181 not far from the site. Directions will be given out before leaving. It starts at 10:00am. South Mountain Family Camp Summer Day Camp
   South Mountain family Camp, 142 Mace Rd., Casar, NC  announces Summer Day Camp for students going into 1st through 6th grade.  June 23-27, 9:00-3:00. Only $50 for the whole week. Kiwanis Club, Shelby
        Kiwanis Club of Shelby is a group of professionals who are involved in the community and looking to change Cleveland County, one child at a time. This fundraising and project oriented club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Deer Brook Restaurant, 201 Deer Brook Drive, Shelby, NC; or the 2nd Thursday evening of every month at 5:30pm at Dragonfly Wine Market, 101 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC. Mental Health Association of Cleveland County
        Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting, visitors and new members are always welcome.
