Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. Join Hospice Cleveland County Grief Counselors and other caregivers who have experienced grief and loss for a video and discussion about "The Transforming Power of Caregiving." Hospice Volunteer Training Class. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. To get credit for the entire course, you will need to attend all days at one of the times offered or call to schedule a time to complete the training. "Reflections" Sharing Group - This grief sharing group meets for five weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Saturday, May 5, 12, 19, 26, 2018 - "Streamside Hike" Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am for a streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.
Sunday, May 6, 13, 20, 27, 2018 - "Fly Fishing 101" Get Hooked! Join a volunteer angler at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Please bring all personal equipment available. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply. In the event of bad weather please contact park office for cancellation information.

Pine Mountain Golf Course is now accepting sign-ups for the Saturday, May 5, 2018, 2-Man Captain's Choice event to help South Mountains Fire Rescue purchase needed equipment. Format: 2-Main Captain's Choice; Entry fee: $50 per person, includes golf, lunch, cash pay-out for flight winners (based on # of players) and closest to the pin on all Par 3's. Junior Charity League of Shelby
Junior Charity League of Shelby will be holding a benefit: Attic Treasures, Saturday, May 5, 2018, 8am - 12pm. Admission is $2. Proceeds benefit the Clothing Room Project of the Junior Charity League of Shelby which clothes hundreds of school aged children in our community each year.

Free Comic Book Day is back on Saturday, May 5, 2018 and Cleveland County Memorial Library, 104 Howie Dr, Shelby, NC is celebrating! Join them from 10:00am - 1:30pm for a day full of comic book related fun including face-painting, tabletop games, coloring, custom button-making, a movie screening, and over 1000 FREE comic books donated by individuals and businesses across Cleveland County. Patrons will also have a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to The Imperial Emporium in Shelby, and those who come in costume will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Extension Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale
Extension Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, Just in time for Mother's Day! Master Gardeners have been propagating and potting plants for months to ensure you have a selection of perennials, herbs, annuals and interesting house plants. Sale is open to the public. Cash Only. Burns High School Lady Dawgs Soccer Team Fundraisers
BHS Lady Dawgs Soccer Team Hosts: BBQ Chicken Dinner Saturday, May 19, 2018, 4:30-7:30pm, at Zion Baptist Church Family Life Center, 525 West Zion Church Rd., Shelby, NC. Dine in or Carryout. The 1st Annual Burns High School Bulldog Soccer Bash will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at Burns High School. Featuring: 6:00 Alumni Game. All BHS Alumni Soccer players, women and men, will be playing to reconnect with the field. Game will be shortened; 6:45 Give it a Shot. All attending can "Give it a Shot" at a cash prize! Make it in the doghouse and win; 7:00 BHS Mens vs. Ladies. Current men and women soccer players at BHS will battle it out to see who can dominate the field. At the door: $2 students, $5 adults, all players - free, this includes alumni who are playing. Also available: The concession stand
will be open and the grill will be firing up hotdogs and hamburgers. There will be homemade ice cream and drinks to cool it down! BHS Soccer Apparel will be for sale in the concession stand. Benefiting The BHS Ladies and Men's soccer teams. All proceeds will go directly towards building the teams and the soccer program at Burns High School.
Habitat for Humanity Cleveland County
Habitat is taking initial applications for its 2018/2019 Home Build now through June 30, 2018. The applicant must be able to make no interest house payments of $475 to $550 a month, must have a real need for better housing, must live in Cleveland County, and must be willing to partner with Habitat by completing "sweat equity" on the home and by attending Homeowner Workshops. The typical Habitat home has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and is approximately 1100 square feet. Applications may be picked up at the Habitat ReStore, 323 W. Grover St., Shelby or to receive an application by mail, call the Habitat office at 704-482-6200. In order to be considered, completed initial applications must be received by the Habitat office no later than June 30, 2018. Habitat is an Equal Housing Opportunity organization.
