        This is the 11th year that the Arts Council has offered funds for school initiated projects and is very pleased with the quality of programs planned by the teachers. The funds were awarded on the basis of program merit for projects, which integrate the arts into the standard course of study, or for art programs, which enhance those studies. Benefit Dinner for Bobby Alexander
        A Benefit Dinner will be held Friday, November 19th beginning at 5:00 pm until... at the Old Belwood School. We will have BBQ and Hotdog Plates for $5.00 each. You can eat in or we will have to go plates. Eat in and enjoy some great music hosted by Carolina Bound Bluegrass and various other singers. There will also be several raffles going on that night to win a $100 gas card/Handmade Quilt/Cake Walk and fun for kids. Bobby was hurt in an accident involvng his tractor on April 13 of this year. The doctors have told his wife, Janet, that she can take him home but she needs medical supplies and a nurse. All money raised will go to help with his needs.
Caregivers To Be Honored With Prizes
        To honor caregivers, a local coalition is offering prizes for caregivers who register during the month of November, which is National Caregivers Month. The coalition is called Journey: A Partnership for End-of-Life Issues, which recognizes caregivers through ongoing programs to educate and support the family members who care for those who are ill or disabled. If you care for someone, you are invited to register at one of three locations in Cleveland County: Care Solutions at 208 E. Grover St. in Shelby (across the street from Cleveland Regional Medical Center) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; or either location of Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care, 222 Kings Mountain Blvd. in Kings Mountain (across from the KM Intermediate School) and 103 T.R. Harris Dr. in Shelby (across from the Neal Senior Center) between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. A drawing will be held weekly for prizes donated by area businesses and individuals. You may register once a week. Winners will be notified to pick up their prizes. Interested individuals are invited to a free breakfast meeting to determine if you would like to join Journey, which meets at 8:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of every month in the staff dining room (just off the cafeteria) at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Boys & Girls Club Basketball Sign-UP
        Registration is underway for the Boys & Girls Club Basketball Program for students in Grades K through six.  Students must attend Graham, Jefferson or James Love Elementary, Marion Intermediate or Shelby Middle Schools. Sign-ups for players and cheerleaders will be ongoing, space permitting, now through November 24.  Registrations are being held at the Boys & Girls Club building at 412 West Sumter Street, directly behind Shelby Middle School in Shelby.   Registration materials for the basketball program can be picked up at the Boys & Girls Club weekdays 1 until 7 pm. There is a non-refundable $10 registration fee for the program which includes membership in the Boys & Girls Club After-School Program for the current school year. There are no additional program fees. A birth certificate is required for all registrations. Current members of the Boys & Girls Club can register at no additional charge. Adult volunteer positions in the basketball program are also available for coaches, scorekeepers and concession workers. Crafts For The Cure Fundraiser
        Blacksburg High School will be hosting a Craft Fair November 20th, 8 am to 3 pm, to raise money for Relay for Life to be held in the Blacksburg High School Cafeteria. We have booths to rent ($25 & $35 with electricity), 50/50 Raffle, Bake Sale, Hot Dog/Hamburger Plate for $6.00, and lots of entertainment. Turkey Shoot Fundraiser
        On Saturday, November 20th we will have a Turkey Shoot Fundraiser for Kevin Randall beginning at 8:00 am until ammo runs out. 12 Guage Ammo Provided and Ham & Sausage Biscuits and Drinks will be available. DAVA Fundraiser
        Looking for vendors to rent table space at $10 a table. DAVA (Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary) Chapter 18 is having a Craft/Flea market, bake sale and hot dogs/refreshment sales on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the DAV, located at 1138 E. Breakfast With Santa
        The Kings Mountain Woman’s Club will sponsor “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, November 20th from 7:30 - 10:30 am at the clubhouse, 109 East Mountain Street. On the menu: Pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, biscuits, coffee and juice will be served for $5. Children under 4 eat free. An “Elves Closet” will allow children to shop for gifts (without parents) for $1 per gift. Pictures with Santa will be available from 8:30 - 12:00 noon. Relay Rejects Fundraiser

Handel’s Messiah at
Ambassador Baptist College
        The public is cordially invited to kick off the Christmas season with Ambassador Baptist College’s annual presentations of George Freidrich Handel’s Messiah. On Friday, November 26, and Saturday, November 27, the 100-voice chorale and selected soloists will be singing excerpts of this baroque masterpiece. The doors will open each night at 6:15 p.m., and the concert will start at 7:00 p.m. Both concerts will be held in the R.A. Torrey Auditorium and are free of charge. Songs include For Unto Us A Child Is Born, Worthy Is the Lamb, and the world-famous Hallelujah Chorus. Please plan to come early since seating is limited. A nursery for young children will be provided. At the conclusion of the concert, a love offering will be received. Ambassador Baptist College is a private, four-year college dedicated to training young people for ministry. Boiling Springs Christmas Parade

Life Enrichment Center
        The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. Anyone diagnosed with Parkinson’s or a family member is invited to attend the program, which is free of charge and open to the public. No reservations are required. Vickie Wyatt will be presenting a program on creating a legacy. The meetings are a place to gain information about new developments, medicines and treatments and a place to connect with others who are experiencing similar life situations. Distribution of Surplus Commodities
        The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing food on December 1st at the Cleveland County Fair Ground. There will be fifteen items for distribution. Those who wish to come to the fairground on Wednesday, December 1st and fill out an application will only need some identification and must live in Cleveland County. Because of the size of this distribution, you must bring a box or large bag that will hold the food. If a person is unable to come in person, they may send a note with the number of the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income.
Auditions for Hats, the Musical!
        AUDITIONS for HATS, the Musical! Greater Shelby Community Theatre is holding auditions for HATS, the Musical, which celebrates women over 50 and the mission of the Red Hat Society. Auditions will be held Friday Dec. 3 from 7:30-9 and Sat. Dec.4 and Sun. Dec. 5 from 2-5pm in the basement of the CC Arts Council,111 S.Washington St., Shelby. Holiday Home Tour
        “Holiday Home Tour”. Are you ever curious as to how others decorate for Christmas? Then join us for this unique home tour and get a peek inside eight beautiful Cleveland County homes. The Cleveland County Arts Council is pleased to announce our first Holiday Home Tour, Saturday, December 4, 10:00 – 4:00. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Arts Center, 111 S. Washington St. Stop by the Arts Center during the tour to check out “Handmade for the Holidays” Christmas Gift Gallery. The entire gallery will be transformed into a lovely holiday gift shop filled with artwork by local and regional artists, available to purchase as gifts or just to take home! IRS Seeking Volunteers To Assist  Low-Income Families to Prepare Tax Returns
        IRS Seeking Volunteers to Assist Low-Income Families. Interested in helping your community to prepare income tax returns free of charge? As a volunteer, you’ll provide free income tax help for low- to moderate-income families who need assistance preparing their federal and state income tax returns. More than 50,000 people volunteered for the 2010 filing season and prepared 1.8 million returns. How does this program work? If you say yes, you’ll be assigned to work with a sponsoring organization, first to receive training and then to begin volunteering at a site in your community. Training is offered both online and in the classroom. Sites are located in community locations where the need is greatest, not in IRS offices. Looking for more information?
