Parkinson Support Group, Neal Sr. Center 

   A Parkinson Support Group Meeting will be held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Neal Sr. Center, 100 Harris Dr., Shelby. Sgl. Doug Murphy 704-487-8822.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild

   Piecemakers  Quilt Guild  meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am -12:00pm at  the Lincoln County Senior  Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am - 3:00pm to provide one on one instruction to beginning quilters. Mental Health Association Support Groups 

   The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss.    Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby), Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. The Shelby Lions Club 

   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Cleveland County Memorial Library, Shelby

   THROUGH THE GARDEN GATE…Spend your lunch hour at the library and feed your mind! The Main Library in Shelby, Cleveland County Memorial Library, 104 Howie Drive, Shelby, is continuing the series of programs for our community that will give folks a chance to spend their lunch hour being entertained. The idea is to bring your bag lunch and the library will provide water, tea and a great program. The programs will be held in the Plaster Meeting Room and you can “come through the garden gate” entrance. The programs will be on the first and third Thursdays of every month from 12:15 to 12:45 and will feature stories, music and educational topics. The month of November’s programs are:

November 15 - Suspense and Thriller Stories with storyteller, Georgiana Wright.

Kiwanis Club, Shelby

   Kiwanis Club of Shelby meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Deer Brook Restaurant, 201 Deer Brook Drive, Shelby. 704-482-4419. Membership dues are $110 per quarter which includes meals and dues.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Shelby

   DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support. The support group meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church in Shelby. Greater Shelby Community Theatre presents “Hollywood Arms”

   Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the dramedy “Hollywood Arms”, written by Carol Burnett and her daughter Carrie Hamilton. The autobiographical play, set in the 40’s-50’s, tells of the heartbreak and laughter of 3 generations of women struggling to survive in one apartment house. If you liked “Mama’s Family”, you’ll enjoy this one too! The play will run November 9-11. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm and Sunday performances at 2:30pm. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/students. Discount presale tickets are available at Arnold’s Jewelers, Badcock & More, CC Arts Council, and the Neal Senior Center. All performances are in the Keeter Auditorium on the campus of CCC. Season ticket holders receive reserved parking privilege.

North Shelby School Fall Musical

  North Shelby School, Carlos Young Building, 1205 Northside Drive, Shelby, is having a “Fall Musical”, Kickin Up Country Fun 2012, Thursday, November 8, 6:15pm. Everyone invited.

COA/Neal Senior Center, Shelby

   Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will have Bingo each Monday night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot up to $500. Public invited, 12 years old and up.

   Thursday, November 8, 11:00am - “Veterans Day Celebration”, Council on Aging/Senior Center. This special invitation is extended to all senior veterans to acknowledge the men and women who have courageously fought to preserve our freedom and to protect our rights. Veterans may attend the celebration at NO COST. All friends and family attending with a veteran will be charged $7.50. Tickets for the Veterans Day Celebration will go on sale at the COA/Senior Center on Monday, October 8, 2012. The deadline to register will be Monday, Nov. 5.    Thursday, November 8, 4:00pm - 6:00pm: “Coping with the Holidays”  Workshop. Participants will be able to share and learn about the difficulties of grieving the loss of a loved one during the holidays. Meal will be provided.

  Sunday, November 11, 3:00pm: “Fall Memorial Service”, Ellis Chapel Baptist Church, 114 Ellis Chapel Road, Patterson Springs, NC. Patients that have died March 1, 2012 through August 31, 2012 will be remembered. Family members will receive a special invitation.

   Tuesdays: November 13, 20, 27 and December 4, 11, 18, “Coping with the Holidays” Sharing Group will meet at 11:30pm - 1:00pm, at The Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. CRMC/Relay For Life, Shelby  

   Cleveland Regional Medical Center will have a Kick Off for Relay for Life, November 13 at 6pm, at T.R. Harris Center, Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby. Relay For Life Cleveland County, Shelby will be May 17-18, 2013. You are invited. Cleveland County-Shelby Team Meeting Dates are January 15, February 12, March 12, April 9, and May 7, at 6:00pm. Kings Mtn. Woman’s Club Hosts Breakfast

   The Kings Mtn. Woman’s Club, l09 Mtn. Street, Kings Mountain,  will host Breakfast with Santa from 7:00-10:30 am, November 17. Adult tickets are $5 and children eat for $3.00. Children can have their photo’s made by a professional photographer beginning at 8:30. (Prices are variable). The Marburger Automotive Family’s “30 Days of Thanksgiving” Canned Food Drive

   Formerly know as “Shelby Motors” the all new Marburger Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram-Nissan family invites you to join us for our 30 Days of Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive which started October 20 continuing through Tuesday, November 20. Help us feed Shelby this Thanksgiving! We know that times are often hard around the holidays, and at Marburger Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram-Nissan, we want to help ease the burden this Thanksgiving. We will be hosting a 30 day canned food drive to benefit the local food bank in an effort to relieve local hunger this Thanksgiving.

    However, your donations will not go un-rewarded! As a thank you we will be offering special service deals for your donations. For every can you donate, you will receive percentage off of your total service bill up to $50, with a maximum of a 10% discount. For instance: 1 can = 2.5% discount; 3 cans = 5% discount; 5 cans = 7.5% discount; 10 cans = 10% discount.

  Cash donations will also be accepted to be used for the purchase of turkey(s) to be served on Thanksgiving Day at local shelters.
