Cleveland County Veterans Day Parade
The Cleveland County Veterans Advisory Council announces the annual Veterans Day Parade and Veterans Day Program on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in uptown Shelby. The Parade begins on S. Lafayette and Graham Streets at 10:00am and ends at the Shelby Farmers Market on W. Marion Street. The Veterans Day Service on Shelby's Historic Court Square begins at 11:00am and the public is invited to attend both events. All veterans are encouraged to attend. In the event of rain, the Veterans Day Program will be held at the Shelby City Park. Persons or groups interested in participating in the Parade, please register by calling 704-435-1516 or email mccoyv@bellsouth.net no later than November 3, 2017.

Sunday, November 12, 19, 2017 - "Fly Fishing 101". Get Hooked! Join angler Jeff Newton at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Please bring all personal equipment available. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
Saturday, November 18, 2017 & Sunday, November 12 & 19, 2017 - "Leaf Lookers Tree ID Hike". Meet a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00am or 2:00pm for a short hike to learn about the trees found in South Mountains State Park. Identify 10 common trees and learn why leaves change colors as the trees prepare for fall and winter.
Saturday, November 18, 2017 - "Wilderness Survival 101". Wilderness Survival 101 will cover basic survival information as covered in the Boy Scouts of America handbook. Topics covered will include basic first aid, shelter and others based on class interest and instructor discretion. Program will be presented by park volunteer, Jeff Newton, who also teaches Fly Fishing 101 and has a great deal of experience in the outdoors. Program is free and open to the public. Please meet at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm.
Saturday, November 25, 2017 - "Skulls & Skins". Look for a Park Ranger and his interesting display of skulls and skins at the Visitor Center. Drop by between 11:00 -12:00 and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home. "Black Bears: Majestic Creatures of the Wild". How dangerous are black bears? Can we coexist? Why are black bears so unique? What should I do if I see a black bear? The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center.

Crouse Community History & Photo Project
Crouse Community History and Photo Project is pleased to announce that Richard Smith has been scheduled as the guest speaker for the Tuesday, November 14, 2017 Crouse Community History and Photo Project meeting. Richard will share with the group the research and process involved in his most recent project: LHS Football Scrapbook 1921-1958. Kings Mountain Historical Museum
Come get a sneak peek at the exhibit of Toys, Games, and Trains before it's available to the public! Kings Mountain Historical Museum (100 East Mountain St in Kings Mountain, NC) from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Friday, November 17, 2017! This annually recurring exhibit fills the Museum with model train displays assembled by the Piedmont "S" Gaugers, as well as railroad memorabilia, and antique toys and games. Visitors of all ages will be enchanted as they explore the miniature snow-covered scenes that line the tracks, and discover the interactive features such as a carousel, chocolate factory, hot air balloons, and mailbag pickup. Parents and grandparents will enjoy reminiscing with the children about the toys and games of their childhood, such as cowboy memorabilia, doll houses, marbles, and board games. Bring your cameras - this exhibit provides great opportunities for holiday family photos.​​ Free admission for museum members and $10 non-members. Saturday, December 2, 2017, 10am-3pm: Experience the magic of the Toys, Games & Trains exhibit, and tour the historic Barber House decorated for the holidays. Learn about the history of Christmas celebrations, and participate in traditional craft demonstrations led by 18th century costumed interpreters. Bring home your own hand-made ornaments! 3pm-5pm: City of Kings Mountain's annual Christmas Parade. 5pm-7pm: Enjoy a special "night run" of the Toys, Games & Trains exhibit, candlelight tours of the historic Barber House, and hot apple cider with cookies by the firelight. Murphey's 23rd Annual Toy Run
Murphey's 23rd Annual Toy Run to benefit Shriner's Burn Center and Oxford Orphanage Masonic Home for Children and Kings Mountain Police Department Shop with a Cop will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017. Rain date is Sunday, November 19, 2017. Meet at 11:00, leave Scooter Shed at 12:00. Police escorted, 114 Camelot Court, Kings Mountain, NC, 704-739-4707. $5 plus new toy per person. Free barbecue after the ride. Backroad Band! Directions from Shelby: 74 east, turn right on Bethlehem Road. Go about 5 miles. You will pass the Fire Department on left. Turn left on Phifer Road. First road to the left is Camelot Court. This is where Murphey's is. Directions from Gastonia: I-85 to Exit 5. Take right. Go to 2nd stop light. Take left on Phifer Road. Murphey's will be on the right.
Cleveland County Partnership for Children
The Cleveland County Partnership for Children, located at the Historic Central School (105 East Ridge Street) in Kings Mountain, will host a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Representatives from Thirty-One, Avon and Paparazzi will be on hand, as well as, vendors selling hand crafted items and baked goods. Proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar will benefit Early Head Start. Ellenboro Fiddlers' & Bluegrass Convention
The 26th Annual Ellenboro Fiddlers' & Bluegrass Convention will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, 6:30pm at the Ellenboro School Gymnatorium, 813 Piney Mountain Church Road, Ellenboro, NC. Fiddlers Convention Admission, $10; kids 10 and under, free. $400 - 1st Place Band, $200 - 2nd Place Band, $100 - 3rd Place Band; $40 - 1st Place each instrument and vocal, $20 - 2nd Place each instrument and vocal. Trophies awarded: Best Band, Best Banjo, Best Fiddle, Best Mandolin, Best Guitar, Best Bass, Best Dobro, Best Vocalist, and People's Choice Band. Host Band: Golden Valley Crusaders. Feeding Kids Cleveland County
"Community Table Thanksgiving Meal" - "To unify Cleveland County Through Food and Fellowship". This event fed over 500 people last year at two locations, Jefferson Park and Hope Community Church. This year a third location is being added, that being Graham Elementary School, so with Graham being added this year, the event is expected to feed between 700-725 people this year. The Event, which is free to all in each community, that would like to come and be fed and have fellowship with others in the Shelby Community Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 4:00pm, at Jefferson Park, Graham Elementary and Hope Community Church. Union Elementary School Christmas Bazaar
Union Elementary School is hosting their second annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 8:30-1:30. On this day, approximately 40-50 vendors will be set up selling homemade crafts, Lularoe, Mary Kay, Usborne and more. There will also be activities for kids. Admission is free. Please make plans to attend this awesome event. Get your Christmas shopping finished all while supporting the students at Union. Union Elementary is located at 1440 Union Church Road, Just off of Hwy 226 (Near Polkville, NC). Vendors are also currently being accepted until November 14, 2017.
Pet CPR & First Aid Certification Class
Pet Emergency Education presents Pet CPR & First Aid Certification Class hosted by Cliffords Army Rescue Saturday, December 2, 2017, 10:00am till 1:00pm, at Cleveland County Memorial Library, Conference Room 104, Howie Drive, Shelby NC. Become certified in canine and feline CPR and First Aid. This Pet CPR+ Certification program is Nationally recognized and rapidly becoming the premiere Pet CPR Training program for animal and veterinary professionals as well as animal lovers everywhere. This class will certify the participant in Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid. The skills and topics covered in this class include: Safety techniques when working with sick or injured animals How to restrain and transport sick and/or injured animals Taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, CRT) Importance of first aid kit How to manage common medical emergencies such as severe wounds, poisoning, burns, choking, etc. Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on dogs and cats (PetCPR+Certification Pre-registration is required.) Registration $69.95 with E book, includes a copy of the Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid Manual, 2 CPR Certification Cards, Official Certificate and a 2 yr subscription to their Online Animal Resource Center.
