The Pregnancy Resource Center, 1304 South Post Road, Shelby, NC, will be holding a "Coat Drive" during the month of October 2015. Needed: slightly used coats and sweaters, newborn to 24 months old. Thursday, October 1, 2015 - 9:00am - Noon or 4:00pm - 7:00pm - Memory Bear Workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Please call one of our Grief Counselors at 704-487-4677 to reserve your space. Last workshop of the year, and will be at the Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building.
Tuesdays, October 6 & 13, Thursdays, October 8 & 15, 2015, 5:30pm - 8:30pm - Hospice Volunteer Training Class. Open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12-hour course is free. To get credit for the entire course, you will need to attend all days of the times offered. For more information, contact 704-751-3573, ext. 111. This will be at the Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building.
Tuesdays, October 6, 13, 20, 27 & November 3, 10, 2015, 5:30pm - 7:00pm - "Reflections" Sharing Group. This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. If you plan to attend one of our groups, please make every effort to attend all six sessions. Casar's Friends of the Park
Casar's Friends of the Park is hosting their Casar's 2nd Annual Halloween Costume Drive. They are collecting new and used Halloween costumes through October 2, 2015 at Casar Elementary and at the Moses house, 5744 Casar Rd. (HWY 10). All Costumes are free 1 per child. Costumes will be given out on October 3, 2015 at Casar Park from 1:00-3:00pm, at Casar Park, 137 Deviney St., Casar, NC.
Cleveland County Fair Pie Baking Contest
The Cleveland County Fair will have a Pie Baking Contest, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 10:00-11:00am., in the Dorton Exhibit Hall. Judging will be at 11:30am. Show pie at any gate and 'baker' receives free admission to the fair from 10:00-11:00am.
Gardner-Webb University Theatre
The Gardner-Webb University Theatre Department announces auditions for a brand new play written by Dr. Doug Bryan of the university administration! His first play, "Rummaging For Will", had a highly successful debut at Gardner-Webb in August of 2013. I-YA-I-YA-O is the story of what happens when three retired missionaries set out to rescue their adopted niece from what they believe to be an ill-fated romance. Called to action through the convening of the I-YA club, Edith, Shirley, and Mary Novella guide three young adults in their search for love and truth. The Iyas demonstrate that indeed laughter may be the best medicine. The play will be directed by James W. Thomas, Dean of the School of Performing and Visual Arts. Production dates for I-YA-I-YA-O are November 19-22, 2015. Auditions: October 6-7, 2015, at The Millennium Playhouse, on the campus of Gardner-Webb University. Available roles: two young men in their 20's and one young woman in her 20's. How to prepare: a one-minute, memorized monologue is desirable. Willow Tree Community School Focus: Women's Dinner
Willow Tree Community School Focus: Women's dinner with Guest Speaker, Shari Braendel presenting "Pampering the Soul" Thursday, October 8, 2015, 6:30-until. $25.00. Meal will include a salad, pork loin, green beans, mashed potatoes, a sour dough roll and a choice of chocolate or pound cake. Shari Braendel will provide women with a personal color analysis, a fashion show and share her testimony. She is one of the nation's most sought-after Christian speakers on the topic of fashion, beauty and modesty. She has been honored to share the stage with Nicole C. Cherryville Little Theatre
Cherryville Little Theatre presents the fall production of Grease. Rydell High's spirited class of '59-gum-chewing, hub-cap-stealing, hotrod-loving boys with leather jackets and their wise-cracking girls in teased curls, bobby sox, and pedal pushers, capture the look and sound of the 1950's in a rollicking musical that salutes the rock 'n' roll era. While hip Danny Zuke and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction for each other, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie. Directed by Pete DeGregory. A cast of 21 ages ranging from 15 and up. Come back in time and relive the glory days starting October 9-11, 2015 and October 16-18, 2015. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3:00pm. Tickets are $10 for Seniors/Students and $12 for adults. Casar Elementary School PTO Fall Festival
The Casar Elementary School PTO Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015. Supper will start at 5:00pm. Dairy Queen will be selling hotdogs, chicken strips, french fries and soft drinks and frozen treats. 10% of proceeds go to benefit the school). Games start at 5:30pm, and auction begins at 6:45pm in the gym. Wristband, $4.00 for unlimited games (bingo, face painting, and cake walk extra), also inflatables and a hay ride. Auction items will have a theme of "Handmade in the South". They will also be accepting can food for a community service project. All proceeds benefit CES PTO and Casar Elementary School.
Broad River Genealogical Society, Inc
The Broad River Genealogical Society, Inc. will be holding an event on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at the Neal Senior Center, 100. T.R. Harris Dr., Shelby, NC, with Vivian Pennington Hopkins' leading a discussion on the cultural diversity of people that came to North Carolina to find gold and how their presence impacted North Carolina and specifically Gold Hill, NC. American Legion, Post 82
American Legion, Post 82 invites you to a Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, October 17, 2015, 7:00am - 10:00am, at Applebee's Restaurant, 433 Earl Rd., Shelby, NC. Tickets are $7 per person. Walk-ins are welcome and take out is available. Proceeds from the breakfast will be used for maintenance of the Post 82 home on South Lafayette St.
