Greater Shelby Community Theatre
The Greater Shelby Community Theatre presents their first production of 2015-2016 season, "Graceland" and "Asleep on the Wind". Graceland tells of two Elvis Presley fans, Bev and Rootie, who camp out at the front gate three days before the estate is opened to the public. Asleep on the Wind is set ten years earlier when Rootie learns news from her brother, Beau, that changes her life. Both written by Ellen Byron and directed by Melissa Scott. Performances: Fri.-Sat., October 16-17 & 23-24, 2015, 7:30pm. Mattinees: Sunday, October 18 and 25, at 2:30pm., in Mildred H. Keeter Auditorium on the campus of Cleveland Community College in Shelby. New for the 2015-2016 season, admission to the October 17, 2015 performance will be "pay what you can," in lieu of set ticket prices. The mattinee performance on Sunday, October 25, 2015 will be interpreted in American Sign Language for deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members.
Somerset Court, Cherryville
Somerset Court, 401 West Academy Street, Cherryville, NC has rescheduled their Western Day Event for Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 2:00-4:00pm. Entertainment will be "The Melody Express". There will be face painting and animal balloons for the kids. Chili beans, cornbread, apple pie and root beer floats will be served. Door prizes will be raffled off. If rain, event will be in the dining room.
Notice to Veterans
Gifts from local merchants will be given away to U.S. Military Veterans at the Mush, Music & Mutts Festival in Uptown Shelby, on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Veterans, please stop by the Daughters of the American Revolution booth to receive free beverage while you register for the drawing. American Legion, Post 82
American Legion, Post 82 invites you to a Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, October 17, 2015, 7:00am - 10:00am, at Applebee's Restaurant, 433 Earl Rd., Shelby, NC. Tickets are $7 per person. Walk-ins are welcome and take out is available. Proceeds from the breakfast will be used for maintenance of the Post 82 home on South Lafayette St.
Cleveland County Association of Teacher Assistants
The Cleveland County Association of Teacher Assistants is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Fatz Cafe, 1235 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC, from 7:00am - 10:00am. Donations: $7. There will be a Silent Auction from 8:00am - 9:30am.
Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue
Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue, 149 North Main Street, Boiling Springs, NC, will be holding a "Chicken Lunch" Fundraiser, on Sunday, October 18, 2015. Serving from 11:00am - until. Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post- Polio Support Group, formerly called the Cleveland County Post-Polio Support Group, will hold the October meeting at the conference room of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby on Monday, October 19th, 2015 at 6:00 in the evening. The conference room is located at the back of the building. The center is located off Hwy 18 North on Life Enrichment Blvd, just north of Cornerstone Dentistry. Each person attending should bring his/her own meal. Drinks- coffee and water - will be provided. The program will be given by Patsy Cheng with a follow-up demonstration of Tai Chi. Kidney Walk for Awareness to Benefit National Kidney Foundation
Kidney Walk for Awareness to benefit the National Kidney Foundation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at 3:00pm. The start/finish line will be at Shelby City Park. The cost is free. The National Kidney Foundation's kidney walk is the nation's largest walk to fight kidney disease. Held in nearly 100 communities, the event raises awareness, and funds lifesaving programs that educate and support patients, their families, and those at risk. Starting at Shelby City Park walking to the Court Square they will be selling $1 raffle tickets and raffling off certificates, gifts, etc. donated by local businesses. Then a nice stroll back to the park to the finish line. You do not have to walk to participate in the event. We will start selling raffle tickets at the Court Square at 3:00pm and you do not have to be present to win! Raffle will begin at 4:00pm. All proceeds will then be turned in on November 8, 2015 in Durham, NC for the National Kidney Foundation. The team name for Durham event is "City of Pleasant Living", representing Shelby, NC! Southern Christmas Show with Shelby City Park
Join Shelby City Park at The Southern Christmas Show Thursday, November 12, 2015, located at The Park Expo and Conference Center, Charlotte, NC (formerly Charlotte Merchandise Mart). Leaving from the parking lot at Rutherfordton Senior Center at 8:00am and from Shelby City Park at 8:30am. Leaving Charlotte around 3:30pm and plan to be back around 4:30pm. $27 per person, due when signing up. Cost includes transportation (by Travel Lynx) and the cost of the ticket. Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets each Monday from 12:00-1:00pm, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter Street., Shelby, NC. The purpose of Al-Anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Any one who is effected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend.
