Relay for Life Kickoff
        The Relay for Life Kickoff will be Tuesday, October 21, 6:00pm at The First Baptist Church Gym in Shelby, NC.
Cleveland County Memorial Library, Shelby
        The Garden Gate on October 16 and November 20 will feature music and stories by Georgiana Wright. On November 6, Ron McCollum, Outreach Coordinator with the Foothills Farmer’s Market will share information about Local Foods and big plans for the Market in our community. Garden Gate Programs are presented at the library every first and third Thursday from 12:15 to 12:45.  Bag lunches are welcome and beverages are served.
Cleveland County Health Dept. Free Health Screenings, Shelby
        Cleveland County Health Department, Cleveland County Alliance for Health and Cleveland County Farm Bureau will host “Healthy Living for a Lifetime™ in Cleveland County, Thursday, October 16, 10:00am - 6:00pm, at Walmart, 705 E. Dixon Boulevard, Shelby, NC. Screenings offered: Cholesterol, Blood Glucose, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, and Vascular Ultrasound*. Hospice Cleveland County
        Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC, will holding following events for October:
        Corks & Taps for Hospice - will be Thursday, October 16, 5:00pm - 9:00pm, the LeGrand Center, 1800 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC. This is a wine and beer tasting event and auction. Food provided by Smoke on the Square. Music by Swing: 30 and Black Coffee Trio. Tickets are $30 in advance, and $35 at the door. Tickets available at Copper Rock, Dragonfly Wine Market, Grapes in a Glass, Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building, Kings Mountain Hospice House, The Hospice Store, or Wendover Hospice House. Bar H Arena, Boiling Springs
        The things of the night will soon gather at the Bar H Arena in Boiling Springs, NC for the Annual Bar H Haunted Hayride and Indoor Maze. The frights will take place on Friday and Saturday, October 17 & 18, October 24 & 25, and October 31. The event begins at dark (approx. 7:30) and will go until the lines of fright seekers are gone. Shelby High School, Tournament of Bands
        The 28th Annual Golden Classic Tournament of Bands will be held Saturday, October 18 starting at 3:00pm at the Shelby High School Football Field. High school marching bands from North and South Carolina will be competing against each other, with an awards ceremony scheduled for 7:45pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $6, with full concessions available.
Lost Playwrights, Hendersonville
        Lost Playwrights will meet Saturday, October 18, at 3:30pm in the auditorium of Henderson County Library, 301 North Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC. All persons interested in theatre or creative writing are invited. There are no dues.
Casar Halloween Bash
        The Town of Casar, NC will hold their Halloween Bash - Trunk-or-Treat, Saturday, October 18, 4:30-8:00pm, at Casar Park. Halloween Parade is at 4:30pm. The Parade starts at Casar Elementary.  Trunk-or-Treat, Door Prizes, Haunted House, Bingo, Ghost Walk, Live Entertainment, Costume Contest, DJ, Games, Bounce House, Crafts, & More. It’s All FREE!!! Volunteers needed for Trunk-or-Treat. Halloween Costume Drive for underprivileged children in our area. Please help by donating used or new costumes to a collection box at Casar School, The Bob Shop, or at the Moses’ Yellow house at 5744 Casar Rd (Hwy 10) across from M & H Towing or they can pick up.         The town of Waco will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7:00pm. Meeting will be conducted at Town Hall located at AW Black Street. Everyone is invited to attend.

        The Cleveland County Town Hall meeting will be held Tuesday, October 21, 7:00pm, at Kings Mountain Armory, Kings Mountain, NC. All concerned citizens and teachers, anyone, please attend. Holiday Gift Galleria, Shelby
        The holiday Gift Galleria is held by the junior charity league to help raise money to provide clothes for children in need. There will be over 60 vendors with all sorts of items for sale. Get your Christmas shopping done early! The dates are Friday, October 31 from 10-6:30, Saturday, November 1 from 10-6 and Sunday, November 2 from 12-4.

Parents Without Partners, Shelby
       PWP meets every Monday night at 7:00 pm. at the Shelby Presbyterian Church for educational programs and at other times as scheduled for monthly social activities including: dances, plays, and concerts. Mental Health Association of Cleveland County
        Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County. Cleveland County Arts Council
        Private or Group Drawing and Painting Sessions with Steven Greenway. Having difficulty fine tuning your 2D artwork? Want to create clear colors instead of muddy colors in your watercolor or acrylic paintings? Stumped by not knowing how to clean up a glaring watercolor mistake? Do you want to bump up your drawing skills with better shading, directional lighting, perspective and figure drawing? Steven Greenway will help you improve your skills and more in one-on-one or small group sessions. These special instructive classes are held at the Cleveland County Arts Council by appointment only. Sessions are 1-½ hours long with individual instruction. These sessions are intended for serious minded artists interested in kick-starting their art career. Bring your own art materials and samples of your work. Steven Greenway has his MFA in Fine Arts from the Otis Art Institute. His experience includes book illustrations, graphic design, teaching, and private art instruction. He was employed as the art director for Clyde A Short and McDowell Technical Community College. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting, visitors and new members are always welcome. Burns High School Class of 1974
        The Burns High School Class of 1974 will celebrate its 40th class reunion Saturday, November 1, 6:45-11:00, at the Owl’s Eye Winery, 1414 Metcalf Road, Shelby, NC. The doors open at 6:45pm and dinner will be served at 7:30. There will be a cash bar with wine and beer available. The cost is $30 per person. Dress is casual. Please make checks payable to BHS Class of 1974 and mail to Amy Lutz, 130 Lutz Rd, Lawndale, NC 28090 by October 11. There will also be a special welcoming station at the home football game on Friday, October 31 as Burns vs. Crest at 7:30pm. Next meeting is Saturday, October 18, 3:00pm, at Owl’s Eye Winery.
