    Parkinson Support Group, Neal Sr. Center

Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers  Quilt Guild  meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am -12:00pm at  the Lincoln County Senior  Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am - 3:00pm to provide one on one instruction to beginning quilters. Mental Health Association Support Groups
        The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide.         Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. The Shelby Lions Club
        The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Shelby
        DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support. The support group meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church in Shelby, NC. Hog Happnin’ Week of the Child 5k, Shelby
        Hog Happnin’, Saturday, October 27. Starting at Shelby City Park, running (or walking) to downtown Shelby and returning to Shelby City Park. Race day registration starts at 7:00am in front of main building. Race begins at 8:00amm. Trophies to top male and top female runners. Medals to first, second, third place runners in each age group. Hospice Cleveland County Upcoming Events
        Hospice Cleveland County, Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC will be holding the upcoming events: 704-487-4677.
        Saturday, November 3,  “Camp Mostly Smiles”, Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building, 9:00am - 3:00pm. This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Professionals who are trained in grief and loss will facilitate the retreat. Please RSVP to ext. 166 if you plan to attend.
        Thursday, November 8, 4:00pm - 6:00pm: “Coping with the Holidays”  Workshop. Participants will be able to share and learn about the difficulties of grieving the loss of a loved one during the holidays. Meal will be provided.
        Sunday, November 11, 3:00pm: “Fall Memorial Service”, Ellis Chapel Baptist Church, 114 Ellis Chapel Road, Patterson Springs, NC. Patients that have died March 1, 2012 through August 31, 2012 will be remembered. Family members will receive a special invitation.
        Tuesdays: November 13, 20, 27 and December 4, 11, 18, “Coping with the Holidays” Sharing Group will meet at 11:30pm - 1:00pm, at The Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building.         Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will have Bingo each Monday night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot up to $500. Public invited, 12 years old and up.
        October 1 - October 31, 8:00am - 5:00pm ”Coat Drive” for seniors who are homeless or any senior that may be in need.  We are asking businesses, individuals, civic groups, sororities, fraternities, churches and the community at large to support this effort in order to help us meet this very important need. Immediately following dinner, The Mystery Comedy “Who Murdered Who?” will be presented by the Neal Senior Center players in honor of contributing members of the Council on Aging/Senior Center.         Thursday, November 8, 11:00am - “Veterans Day Celebration”, Council on Aging/Senior Center. This special invitation is extended to all senior veterans to acknowledge the men and women who have courageously fought to preserve our freedom and to protect our rights. Veterans may attend the celebration at NO COST. All friends and family attending with a veteran will be charged $7.50. Tickets for the Veterans Day Celebration will go on sale at the COA/Senior Center on Monday, October 8, 2012. The deadline to register will be Monday, Nov. 5.         Thursday, November 15, 11:30am - “Annual Thanksgiving Feast”, Council on Aging/Senior Center. Everyone is invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Council on Aging/Senior Center. Lunch includes turkey, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet potato souffle, bread, dessert and beverage. Our dining room will be closed for this event. Those who wish to dine will need to purchase a ticket by Monday, November 12.

   Cleveland Regional Medical Center will have a Kick Off for Relay for Life, November 13 at 6pm, at T.R. Harris Center, Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, NC.
