11/5 – Friday – Holiday Bazaar – 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 pm at Council on Aging, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby. Senior Center’s mouth watering Ham Biscuit at $2.50, Livermush Biscuit at $2.00, and Plain Biscuit at $1.00. South Mountains State Park Programs


10/30 – “Leaf Lookers Tree ID Hike” – Saturday – Meet a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am & 2:00 pm for a short hike to learn about the trees found in South Mountains State Park. Identify 10 common trees and learn why leaves change colors as the trees prepare for all and winter.

GSCT Presents “Deadly Murder”


GSCT presents a thriller - “Deadly Murder” Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the myster thriller, “Deadly Murder” October 29-31 at Keeter Auditorium, CCC. Performances will be on October 29, 30 at 7:30 p.m. October 31 performance are at 2:30. Camille (Kyrin Packard has the world at her feet. One night she is taken hostage and must use all her wits and cunning to save her life. Full of twists and turns, this play will keep you glued to your seat. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/students. Presale tickets are available at a discount at CC Arts Council, Neal Senior Center, Arnold’s Jewelers, Maxwell B. Hamrick Insurance, Badcock and more. This play is not recommended for children under 12.


 


Burns High School – BBQ Chicken Dinner


On Friday, October 29th prior to the Burns vs. RS Central football game we will be serving  a delicious BBQ Chicken Dinner. We begin at serving at 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm in the Burns High School Cafeteria. On the menu: 1/2 BBQ chicken, baked beans, slaw, chips, pickles, dessert and tea). You can dine-in or take-out. Tickets available at BHS office, from a Soccer Club Member or limited at the door tickets. The cost is $10.00 for adults, children under 12 - $5.00 (available at the door only). The proceeds benefit Burns High Lady DAWGS Soccer.


 


Lost Playwrights of Western N.C.


The Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina will meet from  3 to 5 PM, Saturday, October 30, in the Kaplan Auditorium of the Henderson County Library at Washington and Third Streets in Hendersonville. The Lost Playwrights is a group of playwrights, directors, independent filmmakers, actors and writers, who meet each month to discuss works-in-progress and production opportunities and share ideas and advice. Anyone interested in any aspect of theatre is invited to attend.


 


Public Announcement – Halloween


This notice is to inform the general public that by consensus of Shelby City Council, Mayor Alexander officially declared trick or treating for Halloween within the City of Shelby will be allowed on Saturday, October 30, instead of the traditional observance of Halloween on October 31.


 


Cleveland Mall Host Mall-O-Ween


Cleveland Mall will host Mall-O-Ween Saturday, October 30 from 6-8 PM. This event features a mall-wide trick-or-treat for children under 13 from 6 – 7 PM, free face painting at Sears, and a costume contest beginning at 7 PM for all ages. Wear a funny, scary, or just plain unique costume and win prizes in the following age groups: birth – 4, 5-10, 11-15, 16 & Up. Prizes include gifts and gift cards to Cleveland Mall merchants. Shelby Camera Video & Photography will be on hand for photos of your favorite ghouls and goblins. Cleveland Mall is a safe, warm, and dry environment for your children’s Halloween Activities. Benefit Fish Fry for Seth Strickland


There will be a benefit fish fry for Seth Strickland, a seventh-grader at Crest Middle School, on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Boiling Springs Masonic Lodge. The meal will be prepared by Harry McKee and friends and includes fish, french fires, hush puppies, slaw, dessert, tea and lemonade. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance at Springmore Elementary, Crest Middle School, Shelby High School, Crest High School and Boiling Springs Baptist Church. All donations are tax deductible. Checks should be made to the Seth Strickland Cancer Fund. There will be a corn hole tournament for prizes at the Masonic Lodge during the event. Entry is a $10 donation. Door prizes will be available, and there will be a raffle for an iPod and other gifts. Several musical groups also are scheduled to perform throughout the day.


 


2010 Carolina Crossfire Tryouts


Carolina Crossfire is starting a new 8U travel softball team. We will hold tryouts on November 6th at 1 pm at Crest Middle School softball field. Tryouts are open to any girl that is 8 years old or less on January 1st. For more information call Alex at 704-692-7321. Hope to see you there!


 


Relay for Life Charity Auction

Benefit Motorcycle Ride for Bobby Jones


The Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club Inc. NC Chapter 14 is holding a benefit motorcycle ride for Bobby Jones, retired Captain of the Shelby Fire and Rescue Dept. and former Chief and current member of Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Dept. on Sunday, November 7th. Mr. Jones is battling throat cancer and all proceeds will go to the Jones family to help with medical expenses. The ride will start at 1:30 pm at Shelby Fire Station III, located on Kings Rd. ext. Bikes and cars are welcome. Registration will begin at 12:00 pm. It will be an escorted ride throughout Cleveland County, passing by several county V.F.D.’s. The ride will end at Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department where there will be a Hot Dog Supper for $5.00 a plate. Prices for Ride is $20 per bike or car (includes 2 meal tickets). T-Shirts will also be available at $10.00 each. Make checks payable to Red Knights Chapter 14. 


 


Crowders Mountain State Park


Come join the fun at Crowders Mountain State Park on Saturday, November 13 from 10 am ‘til 2 pm. This is our Annual Fun, Fangs and Feathers Fall Festival and  the event is FREE and open to the public. Free games, local music, Smokey the Bear, S’Mores at the campfire, firetrucks, hiking educational programs, fishing, etc. Enjoy the day outside, take a hike, watch the leaves turn. Kings Mtn. Historical Museum Exhibit


The Kings Mountain Historical Museum is proud to announce the opening of the annual Honor Our Veterans Exhibit on Now – November 13. This year we are featuring World War II with uniforms, weapons, equipment, photos, and memorabilia. The exhibit also includes other US Military campaigns and World War I. Southern Christmas Show

With Shelby City Park


A trip to the Southern Christmas show will be sponsored by the Shelby City Park on Monday, November 15 (located at The Park, formerly Charlotte Merchandise Mart). The group will be leaving from the parking lot at Rutherfordton Senior Center at 8:00 a.m. and from Shelby City Park at 8:30 a.m. They will leave Charlotte to return around 3:30 p.m. and be back to the park around 5 p.m. The cost is $15.00 per person, which is due when signing up. This includes transportation (by Travel Lynx) and the cost of the ticket. Tickets will be given out that morning on the bus.
