Piecemakers Quilt Guild         
   Piecemakers  Quilt Guild  meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am -12:00pm at  the Lincoln County Senior  Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am - 3:00pm to provide one on one instruction to beginning quilters. Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale
  Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm, now through the summer months. If you enjoy gardening and want to help grow nutritious food for our neighbors - please join us. Mental Health Association Support Groups
   The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss.    Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. The Shelby Lions Club
   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Shelby
   DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support. The support group meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church in Shelby, NC. Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health Serivce, Shelby
  Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health Service, 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., Shelby, NC will hold a meeting where Attorney-at-Law Jesse Bone will explain to veterans how to get the benefits they deserve, Thursday, October 4, 6:00 - 7:30pm. The meeting is free of charge and open to any veteran or family member. Located just off Fallston Road, between Teddy and Meekins Law Office and Cornerstone Dental Associates. Tuesday, October 16: Begins 5:30pm - 7:00pm. A program for caregives with dementia will answer questions at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. The program is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend even if arriving late. The meeting is informal. A sitter service is available at no charge to the family for the person diagnosed with dementia, but a reservation is required by October 9 to use the sitter service. Call 704-484-0405 to make the reservation. The Life Enrichment Center is an adult day health service, which has been caring for people with dementia for more than 32 years.

Gateway Festival, Kings Mountain
  Gateway Festival Crafters Needed. Calling all Crafters for the Gateway Festival October 6, at Patriot’s Park in Kings Mountain! The Gateway Festival features a variety of activities to draw guests from across the region and is a celebration of Kings Mountain music, art, history and culture. In its tenth year, the Gateway Festival features artisan and craftspeople from across the region. Crafts feature everything from primitive wood crafts to handmade jewelry, homemade soaps to personalized children’s books. “This isn’t a juried event,” says Loretta Cozart, “but we bring in a good representation of crafts from our area. In the past, we’ve had wonderful items offered including homemade knives, wooden spoons, primitive benches and tables, homemade soaps, perfumes, candles, and quilts. We’ve even had soda can airplanes; the kids just love them! We welcome any craftsperson to participate in the festival. And, we encourage our citizens to join us to see the wonderful items offered.” If you would like to participate as a crafter, visit the City of Kings Mountain’s website (www.cityofkm.com) and download an application from the Special Events page. Kings Mountain Woman’s Club
    Kings Mountain Woman’s Club will be having their annual Fall Festival, Wednesday, October 17, 108 E. Mountain Street in Kings Mountain. Turkey or ham with all the trimmings will be served from 11:30-1:30 and 5:30-7:00pm, eat in or take out. Adult tickets are $10 or children 12 and under $6. A country store, and floral displays and “Trash Formation” will also be available. For the Trash Formation you may use computer parts, glass, scrap metal, old clothing, papers, magazines, phonebooks, etc. Please bring these to the clubhouse between 8:00-12:00 noon on the 19th. Hospice Cleveland County Upcoming Events
    Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC will be holding the upcoming events:
   Saturday, October 13 and Saturday October 20, 9:00am- 3:00pm, Hospice Training Class - Kings Mountain House. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12-hr course is free and there is no obligation to volunteer.     Thursday, October 18: Corks & Taps For Hospice - Food & Beverage Tasting 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Silent Auction 6:00pm - 8:00pm, LeGrand Center, 1800 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC. This is a wine and beer tasting event and Silent Auction. Food provided by Smoke on the Square. Music by Jaron Strom and the band “Harvest”. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.    Tuesday, October 23: “Memory Bear Workshop”, Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building, 9:00am - Noon or 4:00pm - 7:00pm. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
