Carolina Renaissance Festival Host Job "Faire"
The Carolina Renaissance Festival will hold its first job faire on Friday, September 9, 2016 and Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00am - 1:00pm each day. The faire will be held at the Festival grounds located just north of Charlotte, between Concord and Huntersville, at 16445 Poplar Tent Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. The Festival hires 350 seasonal employees on an annual basis. Employees will have the opportunity to hawk turkey legs and ale, sell admission tickets, greet guests, and more. Applicants should be able to produce documents showing they are able to work in the United States, if hired. Resumes are appreciated but not required for most positions. The Carolina Renaissance Festival returns for its 23rd annual season weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, October 1st through November 20th. Cub Scout Troop #402
The Cub Scout Troop #402 will hold a Car Wash Fundraiser Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 9:00am until, at Bank of the Ozarks, located on Main Street in Boiling Springs, NC. Proceeds will help fund their annual trip to Patriots Point. For more information call 704-476-5427.
South Mountain Fire Rescue Auxiliary
The South Mountain Fire Rescue Ladies Auxiliary is again hosting the Annual BBQ & Bluegrass on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Starting at 4:00pm they will begin serving the food. The plate includes pork BBQ, baked beans, coleslaw, roll, dessert and tea for $8 per plate. The music will begin at 2:00pm. The bluegrass music includes Good Ole Boys, Foothills Five, Black Mountain Ramblers and several good groups. Put on your dancing shoes and come hungry.
Kings Mountain Historical Museum
Kings Mountain Historical Museum hosts an annual fundraiser to generate revenue necessary to support our free educational exhibits and events. The 13th Annual Reverse Raffle and Auction will be Saturday, September 10, 2016. The Annual Reverse Raffle and Auctions event has been touted as the "best event of the year in Kings Mountain" that serves as a festive and memorable community get-together that continues to grow. Tickets are $125 each which includes dinner for two and a chance to win the $10,000 Grand Prize, in addition to many other fabulous raffle prizes. The event includes Live, Silent, and Cake Auctions with something special for everyone on your shopping list. Tickets will sell out before the day of the event - so be sure to get yours early!
Hoyle Historic Homestead, Dallas
The 25th Annual Open House of the Hoyle Historic Homestead will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Located at 1214 Dallas Stanley Highway, Dallas, NC. Admission is free; donations are always appreciated. The Hoyle House is an excellent example of a unique German construction style. The house has corner posts which are joined together entirely with pegs and in-laid with logs. The house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, dates back to the mid-1700s and is the oldest standing house in Gaston County. At the Open House this year, there will be guided tours of the house, folk and bluegrass music by local band, "Princess & The Cowboys", food will be for sale, and many exhibitors including the Belmont Historical, Mt. Holly Historical Society, Gaston County Museum of Art & History, Broad River Genealogical Society, Greg Payseur: Genealogist, Piedmont Fiber Guild, Al Kirby: WWII Artifacts, Ole Dallas Brewery, Michele Glover: Tatting, BSA Troop 45, and Lincoln County Hearth Cookers (18th Century Style). Artifacts from the archaeological investigations will be on display in the house and the recently repaired log barn is on site. Educational Series "Grief 101" What is grief? Why do we feel grief? Learn the basics of grief, and just how far-reaching it can be. Open to all in the community who wish to learn more about this elusive, and sometimes taboo subject. This is the first in a monthly educational series hosted by Hospice Cleveland County. Future topics will include coping with grief during the holidays, funeral and financial planning, and other grief and end-of-life issues. Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. "Let's Lunch" for Bereaved Veterans' Spouses. This is a monthly social sharing group for those whose spouse was a Veteran. This group meets the last Friday of the month at 11:30am. 36th Annual Paul Porter Memorial Golf Tournament
The 36th Annual Paul Porter Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at River Bend YMCA Golf Course in Shelby, NC. Four-Person Team Captain's Choice Event. $240 per team includes golf, lunch and prizes. Optional "Gift of Life" Mulligan and Red Tee $40. Entry fee and "Gift of Life Package" $280. The Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society
The Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society will be finalizing their plans for the 43rd Annual Rose Show Saturday, September 24, 2016. This year the show will be at the James W. Warren Citizens Center Auditorium, 115 West Main Street, Lincolnton. The show will be open to the public from 2:00-5:00pm with rose arrangements for sale during this time. Please plan to join them.
South Mountain State Park, Connelly Springs
Friends of South Mountains State Park will be sponsoring the 14th Annual Nature Day at South Mountain State Park on Saturday, September 24, 2016, 2016 from 11:00am - 3:00pm. A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day with a focus on NC State Parks: 100 S'More Years. Music is scheduled at the park picnic shelter from 11:00-2:00pm. Exhibits will be displayed at the Visitor Center, Equestrian Day Use Area and in the Jacob Fork Parking Area. Parking and shuttle rides will be provided by park staff and volunteers. Kids, check out the Jr Ranger Corral at the Visitor Center where there will be lots of fun, free activities for all ages including Animal Tracks. Their 4th annual Costume Contest will be held at the picnic shelter at 12:00 Noon. Birdhouses will be assembled from 11:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-2:00pm, while supplies last. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from South Mountains Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Campfire stories will be told at the amphitheater on Hemlock Nature Trail. The Gateway Festival, Kings Mountain
The Gateway Festival, an annual fall festival honoring the anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain, will be celebrated all across Downtown Kings Mountain, NC, on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Award-winning author, storyteller, and Road Scholar Randell Jones will present the program ​"Before They Were Heroes at King's Mountain" at 2:00pm at the museum. This program is made possible with support from the Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority. Visitors will also get a chance to tour the exhibit "Turning Point: The Battle of Kings Mountain."

The Shelby High School Class of 1963 will hold it's Annual Class Reunion on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Deer Brook Golf Club Restaurant, 201 Deer Brook Drive, Shelby, NC. Social hour is at 6:00pm and dinner is at 7:00pm. There will be entertainment after with Dick Hamrick including music and dancing. The cost is around $32 per person depending on the number attending.
