Bell Ringers Needed
The Christmas season may seem far away, but The Salvation Army of Shelby will take applications immediately for bell ringers to work at the red kettles that will be stationed around the community in Cleveland and Rutherford counties. Kettle donations make a significant impact on the army's ability to serve families in crisis during the holidays and into the new year. Those applying must be 18 or older, and must bring current photo ID and Social Security card. No exceptions will be made. Applicants for both counties should come to the Shelby office, 305 N. Lafayette St., and enter the white double doors from the back parking lot off Dorton Street. Hours are 9-11 am and 1-4 pm. Please call 704-482-0375 if you have questions.
Kings Mountain Little Theatre

Lost Playwrights, Hendersonville
Lost Playwrights will meet Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Kapplan Auditorium of Henderson County Library, 301 North Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC. All persons interested in any aspect of theatre or creative writing are invited. There are no dues.
The Flint Hills Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution
The Flint Hills Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution invites the public to join our chapter at 3:50pm in the Prayer Garden at Boiling Springs Baptist Church for "Bells Across America" to celebrate Constitution Week September 17-23, 2017. The church bell will be rung at 4:00 as well as other bells all across America.
Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group, will hold their meeting on Monday, September 18, 2017, at 6:00pm in the conference room of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby. The conference room is located at the back of the building. The center is located off Hwy. 18 North on Life Enrichment Blvd, just north of Cornerstone Dentistry. The program will be given by Todd Putnam. He will present a book report on FDR and his life after Polio. If you are a polio survivor and would like to attend, they would love to see you there! Public Town Hall Meeting
A Question & Answer Town Hall Meeting concerning our schools is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2017, 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall of Landmark Baptist Church, 1724 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC, 28152. Some of our board candidates running for office for the first time will be available for questions and discussion. Attendees may place questions/comments in a box anonymously. These questions/comments will be addressed publicly without mention of who submitted it.
Township Three - "Shoes for Hope"
Township Three Elementary School will be holding an event "Shoes for Hope" at the school on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, approximately 10:30-12:30 and will be in the school gym. Shelby Senior Friends Dinner Group
Shelby Senior friends Dinner Group invites you to join them the third Thursday of the month at Showmars at 5:00pm for supper and alternative local restaurants the first Friday of each month. They are a casual group of friends who enjoy spending time together and many have found lasting friendships and relationships. Feel free to bring a friend and some fresh ideas. Lincoln County Parks & Recreation
With the end of summer approaching, the East Lincoln Community Center will resume their normal schedule with the following activities: Walking: Daily 8:30-11:30am; Pickleball: Monday 1-4:45pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 1-3pm; Basketball: Tuesday and Wednesday 3:30-4:45pm; Senior Basketball: Thursday 3:30-4:45pm; Volleyball - Friday 1-4:50pm.
Lincoln County Apple Festival will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 for some football fun! The Parks and Recreation booth will be located on Main Street near Freedom Church.
Block Smith Gym, 130 Rhodes Street, will be reopening for the fall/winter season on Monday, September 25, 2017. It will open at 8:30am, Monday through Friday for walking. Pickleball will be held on Tuesdays, Senior Games practice/events will be held on Wednesdays, and Chair Volleyball will be held on Thursdays. Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society
The Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will sponsor their 44th Annual Rose Show on Saturday, September 30, 2017. The rose show will be at the Cleveland County Agricultural Office, 130 South Post Road, Shelby, NC. (Hwy 180 next to Food Lion.) Entries will be accepted 7:00 - 10:00am. There is no registration fee and you do not have to be a member to enter roses. The rose show is open to the public 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Rose arrangements will be for sale and all show table roses for sale to the public when the show closes at 4:00pm on Saturday. The rose show is their gift to the community and they hope the public will 'take time to stop and smell the roses'. Shelby City Park & Rutherford County Senior Center Trip
Shelby City Park and Rutherford County Senior Center are taking a trip to the The Great Smoky Mountains by way of Train Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Taking a bus with Travel Lynx, load train in Bryson City where they will ride to Dillsboro, have lunch in Dillsboro, return back to Bryson City, back on bus and return home. Leaving Shelby City Park at 7:30am; and leaving Rutherford County Senior Center at 8:00am. Leave Bryson City around 4:00pm to return to Rutherford County Senior center around 7:00pm and back in Shelby around 7:30pm. The cost is $95 per person and includes bus ride and ticket on train. Movie Premier Event to Help the Homeless
The Cleveland County Rescue Mission (CCRM) on Buffalo Street in Shelby has joined with PureFlix Studios and AMC Theatres to bring a red carpet movie premier to Shelby on Wednesday, October 18, 2017! Two showings of the anticipated "Same Kind of Different as Me" will take place at the AMC Classic 10 at the Cleveland Mall at 7:00 and 7:30pm before the movie opens to the public on October 20, 2017. CCRM has a limited number of tickets to the movie, and is offering a group discount to groups of 10 or more! All proceeds from the Red Carpet Premier will go directly to addressing the homeless needs in our community. The movie "Same Kind of Different as Me" is based on the inspiring true story of international art dealer Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear), who befriends a homeless man (Djimon Hounsou) in hopes of saving his struggling marriage to Debbie (Renee Zellweger), a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the most remarkable journey of their lives. Jon Voight plays Hall's father, with whom he reconciles thanks to the revelations of his new life. Family Caregivers Appreciation Brunch
The Shelby Mission Camp in partnership with ACCES (Accessing Cleveland County Elderly Services) will host a Family Caregivers Appreciation Brunch on Thursday, November 2, 2017, 11:00am till 1:00pm. The brunch will be held at the Shelby Mission Camp, 302 Sharpton Drive, Shelby, NC. All family caregivers and one guest are invited to attend at no charge. The purpose of this brunch is to give caregivers a break from the stress of caring for a loved one with a time of good food, fellowship and entertainment. There will be door prizes and information booths by organizations dedicated to ministering to our seniors and handicapped.
