Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC - Calendar of Events:
Educational Series "Grief 101" What is grief? Why do we feel grief? Learn the basics of grief, and just how far-reaching it can be. Open to all in the community who wish to learn more about this elusive, and sometimes taboo subject. This is the first in a monthly educational series hosted by Hospice Cleveland County. Future topics will include coping with grief during the holidays, funeral and financial planning, and other grief and end-of-life issues. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, 4:00pm-5:00pm, Hospice Cleveland County Administrative Building.
Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Please call one of the Grief Counselors at 704-487-4677 to reserve your space. Third Tuesday of each month, alternating locations. "Reflections" Sharing Group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. If you plan to attend one of our groups, please make every effort to attend all six sessions. "Let's Lunch" for Bereaved Veterans' Spouses. This is a monthly social sharing group for those whose spouse was a Veteran. This group meets the last Friday of the month at 11:30am. Shelby Lions Club
The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing USDA Commodities on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Cleveland County Fair Ground. To fill out an application, you must live in Cleveland County, and come to the fairground on September 14. If the person is unable to come in person, they may send a note stating the number in the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income of the household.
The Living Healthy with Diabetes Workshop
The Living Healthy with Diabetes Workshop is scheduled for this fall: (six weeks) Wednesdays, September 14 - October 19, 2016. Details: Wednesday mornings: September 14, 21, 28, October 5, 12, and 19, 2016 Time: 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. (snacks will be provided) Location: Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall), 198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152 (in the Boiling Springs area). The workshop will be co-sponsored by: Isothermal Planning & Development Commission Area Agency on Aging, NC Cooperative Extension Cleveland County Center, and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. 36th Annual Paul Porter Memorial Golf Tournament
The 36th Annual Paul Porter Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at River Bend YMCA Golf Course in Shelby, NC. Four-Person Team Captain's Choice Event. $240 per team includes golf, lunch and prizes. Optional "Gift of Life" Mulligan and Red Tee $40. Entry fee and "Gift of Life Package" $280. Prizes: Low Gross Team and Top Net Teams. Closet-To-Hole Winners on All Par Three Holes. Each player receives a raffle ticket for prize drawing. Lincoln County Apple Festival

Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group, formerly called the Cleveland County Post-Polio Support Group, will hold it's September meeting at "The Depot Restaurant" in Lattimore, NC on Monday, September 19, 2016. The address is 202 Price Street in downtown Lattimore, NC. Be at the Depot Restaurant by 11:30am then after lunch, tour the Lattimore Historical Museum that has a room with Martha Mason's Polio equipment and other things in it. Other farm implements, Boy scout and store memorabilia, old photos and more will be enjoyed. Everyone is invited. This is a dutch treat as everyone is responsible for paying for their meal. The Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society
The Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society in Co-operation with the Lincoln County Extension Master Gardeners present their 43rd Annual Rose Show in Lincolnton on Saturday, September 24, 2016, downtown Lincolnton, NC, at the James W. Warren Citizens Center Auditorium, 115 West Main Street. Entries will be accepted from 8:00-11:00am. The show will be open to the public 2:00-5:00pm. Rose arrangements and bud vases will be for sale along with some plants. All roses on the show tables will be for sale to the public at 5:00pm. If you are growing roses in your yard, you are eligible to enter the 2016 rose show. Entry is free but you must know the name of the rose to place the rose in the proper category for judging. There is a Novice class for new rose growers to enter.
Friendship United Methodist Men Golf Tournament
Friendship United Methodist Men 9th Annual Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 1:00pm, at Pine Mountain Golf Course: Shotgun Start. Captain's Choice: $220 per team. South Mountain State Park, Connelly Springs
Friends of South Mountains State Park will be sponsoring the 14th Annual Nature Day at South Mountain State Park on Saturday, September 24, 2016, 2016 from 11:00am - 3:00pm. A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day with a focus on NC State Parks: 100 S'More Years. Music is scheduled at the park picnic shelter from 11:00-2:00pm. Exhibits will be displayed at the Visitor Center, Equestrian Day Use Area and in the Jacob Fork Parking Area. Parking and shuttle rides will be provided by park staff and volunteers. Kids, check out the Jr Ranger Corral at the Visitor Center where there will be lots of fun, free activities for all ages including Animal Tracks. Their 4th annual Costume Contest will be held at the picnic shelter at 12:00 Noon. Birdhouses will be assembled from 11:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-2:00pm, while supplies last. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from South Mountains Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Campfire stories will be told at the amphitheater on Hemlock Nature Trail. The Lord Provides Soup Kitchen, Belwood
On Saturday, October 1, 2016, The Lord Provides Soup Kitchen, Belwood, NC, will hold their 3rd annual Belwood Run for Hunger 5k Run/Walk at The Belwood Community Center with race start time at 8:00am. All proceeds go directly to The Lord Provides Soup Kitchen to aide in the continuing ministry of serving the Belwood and surrounding Upper Cleveland County area with free meals on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
The Gateway Festival, Kings Mountain
The Gateway Festival, an annual fall festival honoring the anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain, will be celebrated all across Downtown Kings Mountain, NC, on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Award-winning author, storyteller, and Road Scholar Randell Jones will present the program ​"Before They Were Heroes at King's Mountain" at 2:00pm at the museum. This program is made possible with support from the Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority. Visitors will also get a chance to tour the exhibit "Turning Point: The Battle of Kings Mountain."
Shelby Senior Singles 50 and Over
