    Piecemakers Quilt Guild
   “Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM – 12PM at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton.  We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting; visitors & new members are welcome.  Meetings include a business meeting, show-and-tell, and a program related to quilting.  Members also meet the third Wed. of each month 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. to work on our community projects. South Mountains State Park Programs
   9/24 - “9th Annual Nature Day” Join us for the 9th Annual Nature Day at the park.  A variety of programs, exhibits, hikes and music are scheduled for your enjoyment.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Contact the park office for more information at (828)433-4772.
   9/25 - “The Roles and Responsibilities of an NC State Ranger” What does a Park Ranger do on a day to day basis?  Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium. At 2:00 pm.

Jefferson Elementary 32nd Annual Spaghetti Supper
        The 32nd Annual Jefferson Elementary Spaghetti Supper will be held in the Shelby High School cafeteria on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:30pm. Join us for dine-in service prior to the Shelby Kings Mountain football game or take advantage of our convenient curb side take-out. Tickets at $6.00 in advance or $7.00 at the door. Enjoy delicious homemade sauce by Jeanette Sun of NiFen Wine & Tapas in Uptown Shelby. All proceeds go to Jefferson PTO.
NWA Father/Son Adventure Weekend
        New Wilderness Adventures’ Father/Son Adventure Weekend Sept 23-25 at River Ministry Lodge in Rutherfordton NC. The purpose of the weekend is to give fathers and sons time in an adventure setting where they can connect or re-connect, establishing the father
as his son’s hero and mentor all the while growing stronger in the Lord together.  Don’t worry guys. The NWA team will walk with you through this.  Some of the activities to choose from include: archery, skeet shooting, canoeing, hiking, survival and fishing. Cost $150 per pair ($50 each additional son). Sons 7 and up please. Church groups welcome.  This includes all lodging, food, activities/adventure, and study materials. 2011 September Fest at Cleveland Pines
        Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, 1404 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC will host their 2011 September Fest on Saturday, September 24th. There will be a yard sale, hotdog & bake sale, popcorn & slushies, kids games, hay rides, South Mountain Bluegrass band and other vendors. The event is being held in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association Mini Memory Walk. Proceeds go to the Resident’s Activity Fund. Mosses Ross Family Reunion
   The Mosses Ross Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, September 25 at 1:30. They will meet at the old fellowship building at Ross Grove Baptist Church, Ross Grove Rd., Shelby. Good ole cookout!!! Hot dogs, burgers, chicken provided. Please bring sides accordingly. We are also trying to put together a photo album, so any old and new family photos would be great. Copies are fine. Lost Playwrights Of Western NC
        Lost  Playwrights  of  Western  North  Carolina  will  meet  Saturday,  September  24th,  from  2:30  until  4:30  PM in  Kapplan  Auditorium  of  Henderson  County  Library,  corner  of  3rd  and  Washington  Streets,  Hendersonville,  N.C.  Anyone  interested  in  any  aspect  of  writing  or  theatre  is  welcome  to  attend.
Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Show
        The Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Show will be held on Saturday, September 24, at Cleveland mall. Sterling House Yard Sale, Silent Auction, Hot Dog Lunch Sale For Alzheimer Assoc.
  On Saturday September 24th from 8am-1pm Sterling House Shelby, an assisted living community will be holding their fifth annual yard sale, silent auction and hot dog lunch sale with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.The Silent Auction will feature items from local restaurants, businesses, and artisans. The yard sale is one of the largest in the county of the year with items ranging from furniture, household items, children’s clothing and toys, adult clothing, baby items, and more. KM Woman’s Club Public Issues Community Service Program
        The Kings Mtn. Woman’s Club will host a Public Issues Community Service Program on Monday, September 26 at 6:00 pm.  The event will be at the club house, 109 E. Mtn. Street.  Those running for Cleveland County Board of Education and the Kings Mtn. City Council have been invited to participate.  Each candidate is allotted three minutes to state their platform and the audience will have time to ask questions.  All interested citizens are invited.

Mother of Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor To Speak at Life Enrichment
        Denise Boggs will bring her message of how not only to survive TBI but also to thrive when she presents a program at Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Health Service in Shelby Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. It is free of charge and open to anyone interested in learning more about TBI, which is defined as an injury to the brain caused by an external trauma such as from a fall, car crash, sports injury, being shaken or concussion blasts such as sustained by active duty military personnel. Shelby High Homecoming Parade
       Shelby High School’s sports teams, student clubs, organizations and homecoming court representatives will parade down Lafayette St., Thursday, September 29, beginning at 4:15 p.m. and will end at approximately 5:00 p.m. Officers from the Shelby Police Department will close Lafayette St. from Marietta to Graham at about 3:45 p.m. for the parade. The parade begins on Lafayette at Marietta, continues past the court square, turns right on Graham and ends in an empty lot on Graham and Market St. The Homecoming game will be Friday, September 30 against Patton High School at 7:30 p.m. at Blanton Stadium. South Mountain Fire & Rescue Free Lipid Screening/BBQ
        On Saturday, October 1 the South Mountain Fire & Rescue will be busy. From 7 to 10 AM the Blueridge Healthcare team will be taking blood for a Free Lipid Screening. Then at 4 PM they will be serving some mightly tasty BBQ that the firemen have been cooking. While you eat this great meal, be entertained by some great Bluegrass bands. Shelby Lions Club Yard Sale
        The  Shelby  Lions  Club  will  have  its  first  annual  yard  sale  Saturday, October  8th,  at  the  American  Legion  Building  at  1628   South  Lafayette  Street,  Shelby,   from  8:00  AM  until 2:00  PM.        Proceeds  will  benefit  sight  and  hearing  conservation  needs  in  Cleveland  County.  Donations  will  be  accepted  at  the  American  Legion  on  Friday,  October  7th,  from 3:30  until  7:00  PM.     No  clothing,  please.

South Mountain Fire & Rescue BBQ & Bluegrass Event
        The South Mountain Fire & Rescue will hold their BBQ and Bluegrass event on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Beginning at 7:00 until 10:00am Blueridge Healthcare will be providing free blood checks (for best results do not eat anything before coming). At 4:00pm the BBQ and bluegrass begins. Our firemen make really good BBQ and the Bluegrass music will be excellent. Come out and enjoy yourself.
