    Piecemakers Quilt Guild
   “Piecemakers Quilt Guild” meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM – 12PM at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton.  We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting; visitors & new members are welcome.  Meetings include a business meeting, show-and-tell, and a program related to quilting.  On October 5th Anna Norris will present the program. Hospice Cleveland County Events
   Making Connections Workshop - Thursday, Oct.  20,
10 a.m.-noon at Hospice Cleveland County. This workshop is designed to give you the instruction you need to use touch and massage safely and effectively in caring for a loved one with a life altering illness. Scientific studies have shown that simple hands-on methods can reduce the severity of symptoms (pain and anxiety) and side effects of treatment by 50% or more. In this workshop you will learn techniques that you can use to help your loved one feel better. GSCT “Moonlight & Magnolias” Comedy
  Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the comedy “Moonlight & Magnolias”,  a hilarious comedy, loosely based on the truth of the iconic movie, “Gone With the Wind”. The comedy is based on the rewrite of the movie script by producer David Selznick, screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming. Locked in an office for 5 days, and surviving on a diet of peanuts and bananas, hilarity ensues as the three men act out all the major GWTW roles in order to produce an award-winning script for this well-known movie. “Moonlight and Magnolias” will be presented Oct. 21, and 22 at 7:30pm and 23 at 2:30pm. Burns Girls Soccer Team Corn Hole Tournament
  The Burns Girls Soccer team is hosting a Corn Hole Tournament on Saturday, October 22 at Burns High School. Rain or shine. Signups at 9:00 a.m. Play strarts at 10:00 a.m. $20 per 2 person team. Double elimination. Prizes will be given for first and second places.
Fall Festival Returns To Uptown Shelby
  The  Fall Festival is coming to uptown Shelby, Saturday, October 22. Kids come in costume and paint a pumpkin, enjoy fun activities and fall crafts, play on the inflatable obstacle course, and parade all around the court square in your costume. Parents- Ident-A-Kid and Safe Kids Cleveland County will be there to teach your kids about safety and have your child’s I.D. made. And don’t forget balloon animals and pin the tail on the pig. The great local sponsors that make this event possible are Wells Fargo Bank, RBC Bank, Shelby Savings Bank, Childcare Connections, Cleveland County Healthcare System, Shelby City Police, and Uptown Shelby Association.   The Fall Festival is held annually in conjunction with the Liver Mush Expo and new this year the Little Miss Little Miss Liver Mush Pageant (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and The Art Of Sound festival in Uptown Shelby (October 20-22nd). The 22nd is also the last market day for the Foothills Farmers Market (Opening at 8 AM), with growers selling local produce, prepared foods, and other products from across Cleveland County. Lost Playwrights Of Western NC
        Lost  Playwrights  of  Western  North  Carolina  will  meet  in  Rutherfordton,  N.C. on  Saturday,  October  22nd,  from  2:30  to  4:30  PM at  the  Rutherford  County  Annex   on  North  Main  Street     ( This  is  the  building  where  the  County  Commissioners  meet.)   All  persons  interested  in  any  aspect  of  writing  or  theatre  are  encouraged  to  attend.  
Shelby Lions Club To Sell Brooms
   The  Shelby  Lions   Club  will  have  a  booth  at  Livermush  Expo on Saturday, October 22, uptown Shelby. They will be selling  brooms,  water,  and  soft  drinks.    They  will  hand  out  eye donor cards  and  cards  with  information  concerning  how  to  contact  Social  Services.    This  is  part  of  “Share The Vision,”  a  Lions  Global  Service  Action campaign.
Fay Gardner-Bess Hoey Breakfast
    The public is invited to purchase tickets and attend the Fay Gardner-Bess Hoey Breakfast to be held at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at North Lake Country Club at 1200 N. Washington St. in Shelby, N. C. The event is sponsored by the Cleveland County Democratic Women organization. It will celebrate the origins and heritage of local women’s involvement in politics, recognizing the leadership of former N. C. First Ladies Gardner and Hoey, both Cleveland Countians.     Saturday, October 22 - “Leaf  Lookers Tree ID Hike” - Meet a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am & 2:00 pm for a short hike to learn about the trees found in South Mountains State Park.  Identify 10 common trees and learn why leaves change colors as the trees prepare for fall and winter.

Gaston Quilters Guild
The Gaston Quilters’ Guild will meet Monday, October 24th at 6:30 p.m.  Meetings are held at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 1101 N. Lions Club/Boys And Girls Club Peace Poster Contest
        Lions   Clubs  International  and  The  Shelby  Lions  Club ,  in  partnership  with  the  Boys  and  Girls  Clubs  of  Cleveland  County,  is sponsoring  a  Peace  Poster  Contest  for   children  ages  11,  12,  and  13.     The  theme  is  “Children  Know  Peace.”   The  posters  will  be  turned  in  to  the  Boys  and  Girls  Clubs  and  judged  by  a  committee  from  the  Lions  Club.    The  local  Lions will  give  the  local  winner  a  certificate  and  a  fifty  dollar  prize,  and  he or  she  will attend  November  8th  Shelby  Lions  Club  meeting  with  parents.    The  poster  will  advance  to  higher  levels  of  competition.   The  international   winner  will  receive  five  thousand dollars  and  a  trip  to  the  United Nations. Entries  should  be  turned  in  before  November  1st.
Southern Christmas Show with Shelby City Park
        Shelby City Park will sponsor a trip to the Southern Christmas Show at the Park (formerly Charlotte Merchandise Mart) on Monday, November 14.  The bus will leave from the parking lot at Rutherfordton Senior Center at 8:00 a.m. and from Shelby City Park at 8:30 a.m. They will leave Charlotte around 4:00 p.m.  and be back to the park around 5 p.m. Cost is $17 per person, due when signing up. This includes the transportation (by Travel Lynx) and the cost of the ticket. Tickets will be given out that morning on the bus.         Right now you can notify the City that you are interested in receiving a Recycle cart, that will be delivered to your residence in December, by signing up on our website at www.cityofshelby.com.  Please locate and click on the green Recycle icon at the lower right-hand side of our home page and fill out the information requested and click submit. More information coming soon! Please encourage your friends, family and neighbors to recycle - it’s a great thing to do for our environment and our County landfill.
