    Piecemakers Quilt Guild
   “Piecemakers Quilt Guild” meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM – 12PM at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton.  We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting; visitors & new members are welcome.  Meetings include a business meeting, show-and-tell, and a program related to quilting.  On October 5th Anna Norris will present the program. South Mountains State Park Programs
   Saturday, 10/ 8   - “Streamside Hike” - Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am for a streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.
   Saturday, 10/ 8   - “Black Bears: Majestic Creatures of the Wild” How dangerous are black bears?  What should I do if I see a black bear?  The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center.
   Sunday, 10/ 9 - “Animals of the South Mountains” - Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center auditorium.

Shelby Lions Club Yard Sale
        The  Shelby  Lions  Club  will  have  its  first  annual  yard  sale  Saturday, October  8th,  at  the  American  Legion  Building  at  1628   South  Lafayette  Street,  Shelby,   from  8:00  AM  until 2:00  PM.        Proceeds  will  benefit  sight  and  hearing  conservation  needs  in  Cleveland  County.  Donations  will  be  accepted  at  the  American  Legion  on  Friday,  October  7th,  from 3:30  until  7:00  PM.     No  clothing,  please.

ACW Pro Wrestling Fundraiser
    ACW pro-wrestling will hold a non-profit fundraiser event for Lloyd Kale of Vale NC, who has cancer on Sat. Deer Brook Golf Tournament
        1st Annual Battle At the Brook Golf Tournament will be presented by Grover Police Department Saturday October 8,  at Deer Brook Golf Club, Shelby NC. 4 Man Captain Choice Best Ball, $50 per player. Cleveland County Partnership For Children Committee Meeting

Friendship Masonic Lodge Fish Fry Benefit
  Friendship Masonic Lodge will hold a Fundraiser Fish Fry Benefit for Green Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, October 15 at Friendship Masonic Lodge in Boiling Springs, NC from 11 a.m. untll 8 p.m. $10.00 per plate. Eat-in or carry out.  All proceeds go to Green Bethel Life Center.
GSCT “Moonlight & Magnolias” Comedy
  Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the comedy “Moonlight & Magnolias”,  a hilarious comedy, loosely based on the truth of the iconic movie, “Gone With the Wind”. The comedy is based on the rewrite of the movie script by producer David Selznick, screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming. Locked in an office for 5 days, and surviving on a diet of peanuts and bananas, hilarity ensues as the three men act out all the major GWTW roles in order to produce an award-winning script for this well-known movie. “Moonlight and Magnolias” will be presented Oct.14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7:30pm and Oct.16 and 23 at 2:30pm.    Making Connections Workshop - Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 6 p.m.-8 p.m at Hospice Cleveland County and Thursday, October 20,
10 a.m.-noon at Hospice Cleveland County. This workshop is designed to give you the instruction you need to use touch and massage safely and effectively in caring for a loved one with a life altering illness. Scientific studies have shown that simple hands-on methods can reduce the severity of symptoms (pain and anxiety) and side effects of treatment by 50% or more. In this workshop you will learn techniques that you can use to help your loved one feel better. Topics covered include: safety; positioning; frame of mind; communication; techniques for head, neck, shoulders and hands; acupressure for anxiety, pain and nausea. Light refreshments will be served. Fallston Elementary 5K And Fun Run
   Fallston Elementary School will hold their 5k and Fun Run.  The race is Saturday, October 15.  The 5k starts at 8:30.  Registration begins at 7:30.   All proceeds go towards purchasing outdoor equipment to promote healthy living for children. Cost is $18 if your registration is sent in before October 7th and this will guarantee you a shirt..  Cost on race day is $23.  They will also offer a FREE Kids Fun Run for ages 12 and under. Children can purchase a shirt for $12. Registrations can also be downloaded at www.clevelandcountyschools.org, click schools, then click Fallston Elementary. Dementia Caregiver Meeting
   What Do They See? Looking Through the Eyes of Dementia?  If you wonder what is behind  the behaviors associated with dementia, Chrisite Ray will answer some of those questions when she presents a program called “What do they see? Looking Through the Eyes of Dementia” at the next family caregiver meeting at Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care Tuesday, Oct. 18. In a vivid, action-packed presentation, Mrs. Ray, of Home Instead, will explain how the world looks to someone with dementia symptoms. The caregiver meeting, which meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m.,  is open to anyone and is free of charge. Life Enrichment is located at 110 Life Enrichment Blvd. in Shelby (between Teddy and Meekins law office and Cornerstone Dental Associates.) A free sitter service is available for the person diagnosed with dementia, but a reservation must be made by Oct. 11 by calling 704.484.0405.
Kids Around Before And After School Care
      The Kidz Around Program for Cleveland County Schools is a school-age child care service designed especially to meet the needs of families with children in the Cleveland County Schools.  It is a non-profit program and receives no governmental funding. The program is designed to provide supervised care for children in grades K-Intermediate on site or a short bus ride to another site. The Cleveland County School System is committed to providing for the total development of each child and to providing all students with the best possible educational program. After School Care is a recreational program. Activities include active games, arts and crafts, music, movies, homework time and free time during which children may choose selected activities.  Staff: Experienced dedicated staff maintains a safe nurturing environment where children come first.  All staff are CPR and first aid certified. Fees: After School: $35.00 per week if picked up by 4:30 p.m.; $40.00 per week if picked up by 6:00p.m; $30.00 per week: additional children from the same family if picked up by 4:30 p.m.; $35.00 per week: additional children from the same family if picked up by 6:00 p.m.
Before School: $2.00 per day per child if enrolled in After School Care. $3.00 per day per child if not enrolled in After School Care. There will be a $10 additional charge per child for all-day care. A $30.00 registration fee is required for each child and is NON-REFUNDABLE.
