        Hospice Training Class - Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12-hr. course is free and there is no obligation to volunteer.  The classes will be held at Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby. Family Education Series for the CCS Exceptional Children’s Department
        A group of parents working together to bring vital information and support to families served by the CCS Exceptional Children’s Department will be hosting a “Family Education Series” for the Cleveland County Schools Exceptional Children’s Department, Thursday, September 26 from 6:30-8:00pm, at Marion Elementary School, Star Theater, 410 Forest Hill Drive, Shelby. A panel of professionals with information on funding and resources to help our kids make progress will be having an information session titled “Finding Funding” that will help answer questions about CAP/Medicaid funding and the new waiver system; gaining support and resources through First in Families of North Carolina; ways to maximize the resources you already have; and more! Refreshments will be served and there will be a time to meet and support other famillies and caregivers. Mark your calendar for future sessions: December 5 - Challenging Behaviors at Home and School; February 27 - Nutrition and Special Diets; May 15 - Overcoming Obstacles with Nationally Noted Speaker, Kerry Magro.
Public Invited
        A townhall meeting to discuss the Cleveland County School system and the upcoming Board of Education election will be held at Cleveland County Memorial Library, Plaster Meeting Room, on Thursday, September 26 from 6:00-8:00pm. All Board of Education candidates are invited to participate and the public is invited to an open mic session to ask questions of the candidates. Moderator will be Brendan LeGrand. Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society
        Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will present their 40th Annual Rose Show at the Cleveland Mall in Shelby, September 28. Rose entries are accepted from 7:00 - 10.00am.  Judging will be from 10:30 - 1:00pm.  The show opens to the public 1:00 - 4:00pm.  Flower arrangements will be sold during the show. All show table roses will be sold at 4:00pm. The rose show is our gift to the community and we hope the public will view and enjoy this show.
Somerset Court, Cherryville
        Someset Court, 401 West Academy St., Cherryville, will be having a Fall Festival, Saturday, September 28, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Rain date will be October 5. There will be games, clowns, and face painting. Also sellling hot dogs, chips, drinks, and cookies. Tickets will be sold to raffle off items. All money that is raised will go to benefit our residents and their needs.
One Stop Food Stores, Shelby
        One Stop Food Stores will be celebrating their 31st Annual Charity Golf Tournament, Wednesday, October 2. Get your reservations in ASAP. The proceeds will be donated to the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas. David Mobley, Long Drive Pro, will be in attendance and each player will receive a free drive included in the entry fee. Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health Service
        Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health Service, 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., Shelby will be having a work shop, Thursday, October 3. Does your mom have macular degeneration? Do you wonder why people with dementia have vision problems? Experience what they experience. See the world through their eyes and hear through their ears. You will be able to experience the five senses the way older adults do in an Aging Sensitivity Training for families and professional (who can receive 1 CEU). You can walk with bunions, experience picking up coins with arthritic hands, “see” with cataracts. Partners Behavioral Health Management will lead the training. The program is free of charge and open to everyone who is interested in understanding older adults. You may choose one of two times:  2-3:15 or 5:30-6:45pm. Library at Ruby C. Hunt YMCA, Boiling Springs
        The Library at the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA, Boiling Springs, NC will host an Open House on Tuesday, October 8 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.  This Open House will showcase a collection of 61 new children’s books that have been provided by a grant from The Libri Foundation of Eugene, Oregon. The goal of The Libri Foundation is to donate quality children’s books to rural public libraries. Families are encouraged to attend this free event to preview the newest additions to our collection of children’s titles. At the Open House, guest readers will share some of their favorite stories.                 The Library at the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA announces the opening of a “Readers on the Move” StoryWalk™ on Tuesday, October 8. This StoryWalk™ will give families the opportunity to read a popular children’s book while spending time together on the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA’s Fitness Trail. This StoryWalk™ is available to the general public free of charge. Families are encouraged to visit the StoryWalk™ on the campus of the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA. This StoryWalk™  is made possible by a grant from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation and the Library at the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA.

“Flu Shots” Double Springs Baptist Church, Shelby
        Flu shots will be given October 17 at Double Springs Baptist Church Family Life Center from 4:30-7:00pm. The shots are free of charge for those with Blue Cross and Blue Shield or with Medicare Part B. For all others, the cost is $31. The church is located at 1130 Double Springs Church Road, off Washburn Switch Road. The event is sponsored by the church’s health care team.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters.
