Piecemakers Quilt Guild         
   Piecemakers  Quilt Guild  meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am -12:00pm at  the Lincoln County Senior  Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am - 3:00pm to provide one on one instruction to beginning quilters. Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale
  Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm, now through the summer months. If you enjoy gardening and want to help grow nutritious food for our neighbors - please join us. Mental Health Association Support Groups
   The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss.    Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. The Shelby Lions Club
   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Shelby
   DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support. The support group meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church in Shelby, NC. NAMI Rutherford-Cleveland
   The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Rutherford-Cleveland is holding an Education Forum, Tuesday, September 27, 7:00pm at Holland House, 475 West Main Street, Forest City. The topic is “Blue Ribbon Commission on Transition to Community Living for Adults with mental disabilities. Speakers: Rosemary Weaver and Local Government Officials (TBA).      “Michael Dalton Fitch” Memorial Golf Tournament, River Bend Golf Course, 3005 Longwood Drive, Shelby, NC., Saturday, September 29, 1:30pm shotgun start. South Mountains State Park Connelly Springs 
  South Mountains State Park will be hosting the 10th Annual Nature Day on September 29 from 11:00am - 4:00pm. A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day. Music is scheduled at the park pavilion from 11:00am - 4:00pm with Richard Beard, Sassafras Tea, Tim and Faith Ingle and the “Heartstrings” musicians, and Michael Fox and his Possum Holler Ole Time String Band. The popular Build a Bird House Program will be held at the old park officer. Exhibits will be displayed at the Jacob Fork Parking area. Children’s activities are scheduled throughout the day. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from South Mountains Volunteer Fire Department. Door prives will be given away at 4:00 at the picnic pavilion.
    South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18.  We welcome the community to join us for this informative and fun day. Admission is free. For more information contact park at (828) 433-4772.

Cleveland/Lincoln Counry Rose Society
   Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will host their 39th annual rose show on September 29, 2012 at the Cleveland Mall. Entries will be accepted from 7:00-10:00am and judging begins at 10:30am - 1:00pm. Anyone may enter their “Named” home grown roses, society membership is not required. The rose show opens for public viewing from 1:00-4:00pm. The rose society will have rose arrangements and bud vases for sale during the show. At the close of the show all roses on the tables will be for sale. Consulting rosarians will be available to answer your rose questions and rose literature will be available. The public will be asked to vote at the ‘Fragrance Table’ for the best fragrant rose. The rose show is our gift to the community and we hope the public will view and enjoy our show at the Cleveland Mall.
DKMS Americas Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive
  DKMS Americas is sponsoring a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive, October 1-2, 3:00pm - 7:00pm, at  the lobby of Dover Foundation YMCA. DKMS Americas is the largest bone marrow donation center in the world. They are leading the fight against blood cancers. To become a potential donor, come out and give a cheek swab sample. Your sample will be sent off and typed. You will then be added to the Natioinal Bone Marrow Registry. If you are found to be a match, DKMS will contact you with further information. Gateway Festival, Kings Mountain
    Gateway Festival Crafters Needed. Calling all Crafters for the Gateway Festival October 6, at Patriot’s Park in Kings Mountain! The Gateway Festival features a variety of activities to draw guests from across the region and is a celebration of Kings Mountain music, art, history and culture. In its tenth year, the Gateway Festival features artisan and craftspeople from across the region. Crafts feature everything from primitive wood crafts to handmade jewelry, homemade soaps to personalized children’s books. “This isn’t a juried event,” says Loretta Cozart, “but we bring in a good representation of crafts from our area. In the past, we’ve had wonderful items offered including homemade knives, wooden spoons, primitive benches and tables, homemade soaps, perfumes, candles, and quilts. We’ve even had soda can airplanes; the kids just love them! We welcome any craftsperson to participate in the festival. And, we encourage our citizens to join us to see the wonderful items offered.” If you would like to participate as a crafter, visit the City of Kings Mountain’s website (www.cityofkm.com) and download an application from the Special Events page. Cost to participate is $30 and proceeds benefit the Col. Frederick Hambright, Daughters of the American Revolution scholarship fund.
