Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care and Health Services
        Are you ready to learn more about Dementia to help your loved one?         Do you understand what your loved one needs? The International Demolition Derby
        The International Demolition Derby will be at the Bar H Arena in Boiling Springs, NC, Saturday, September 6 and Saturday, September 13, starting at 7:30pm each day. Abuse Prevention Council of Cleveland County
         The Abuse Prevention Council (APC) of Cleveland County will hold its 1st Annual Golf Tournament, Saturday, September 6, at Riverbend Golf Club to raise funds to support the citizens of Cleveland County who need assistance. Peak Resources and Somerset Court, Cherryville
        Please join the Residents of Peak Resources and Somerset Court for their first annual block party, Saturday, September 6, 2:00-4:00. Event will be held at 7615 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Cherryville, NC. There will be shagging to the fifty’s with Tony D. King, Sr. There will also be a cruise in for classic cars sponsored by Keith and Joy Wood. They will be selling raffle tickets, baked goods, drinks and popcorn. There will be games, animal balloons and face painting for the kids. Proceeds will go the needs of the residents.
Pregnancy Resource Center, Cleveland County
        The Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County, Inc. will sponsor “Walk for Life ‘14”, Saturday, Sept. 6, 9:30am - 11:30am, at Bethel Baptist Church. Registration begins at 9:00am. Join them in fun, games, and special activities for the kids. Christian music and free food and drinks. Individual awards for the most money raised. Team awards for each team that raises $1,000 or more. (Please limit team size to no more than 10 members.) Cleveland County NAACP
        The  Cleveland County Branch of the NAACP will host a “Moral Monday Rally” Monday, September 8, 5:30-7:30pm. It will be held on the lawn of the Historic Old Cleveland County Court House, 103 South Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC, in front of the Bank of the Ozarks. Special seating will be available for seniors and the handicapped, on a first come, first serve basis. They are asking and encouraging all residents of Cleveland and surrounding counties to be in attendance. There will be speakers on issues that hinder the growth of Cleveland County and our State. Shelby Lions Club Distributes Commodities
        The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing USDA Commodities Wednesday, September 10, at the Cleveland County Fairground. Those who wish to fill out an application will only need some identification and must live in Cleveland County. If a person is unable to go in person, they may send a note stating the number in the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income of the household. In accordance with Federal Law and U.S. Department of Agriculture Policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national orgin, sex, age, or disability.
Carolina DWI Services, APNC, NAADAC & SAMHSA
        Carolina DWI Service, APNC, NAADAC & SAMHSA is sponsoring a Free Movie, Thursday, September 11, 5:00pm: “The Anonymous People” which is a feature documentary film about the more than 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. The movie starts at 5:30pm sharp, at the LeGrand Center, 1800 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC. There will be a Recovery Messaging specialist panel discussion following the movie. Broad River Genealogical Society, Shelby
        The Broad River Genealogical Society, 1145 County Home Road, Shelby, NC (directly across from Putnam Baptist Church) will be presenting their General Meeting, Sunday, September 14, at Neal Senior Center, 100 T R Harris Dr., Shelby, NC, 3:00pm. General public and members welcome. The speaker will be Tom Magnuson, Founder and CEO of Trading Path Preservations Association (TPA), Hillsborough, NC. Tom will be giving a presentation on where the early settlers traveled before 1780, how they migrated into this area, what trails, and paths they traveled on and how our early pioneers moved into this part of the Carolinas. Tom is a military historian, and graduate of San Jose State University. He is also a North Carolina Humanities Council Scholar. The Broad River Genealogical Society Archive is open: every Tuesday night from 6-8; 2nd and 3rd Mondays from 12 noon to 4:00pm; 2nd and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00am - 1:00pm; other times with prior arrangements.
The Town of Waco
        The Town of Waco will hold the monthly meeting on September 15, 7:00pm, at the Town Hall, located at 222 AW Black Street, Waco. Meeting is open to anyone that may want to attend.
        A special meeting has been called to discuss the possible road repairs on Devinney Road on September 16, 6:00 pm, and is open to anyone. Residents of Devinney Road need to attend and express their concerns or questions at that time.
Crest Middle School Hosts Blood Drive, Shelby
        Crest Middle School, 315 Beaver Dam Church Rd., Shelby, NC, will be hosting a Community Blood Drive Thursday, September 18, 1:30-6:30pm at Crest Middle School. Email agates@clevelandcountyschools.org for an appointment. Walk-ins welcome.
Cleveland County Arts Council
        The Cleveland County Arts Council will sponsor “Art of Sound”  (AOS), which is a music festival by and for lovers of the arts. AOS will be the finale for the season. The date is September 18-20. The festival is in uptown Shelby, NC, the home of Earl Scruggs and Don Gibson. It is held on the historic court square and nestled in several venues that afford the listener an up-close experience with the artists. The venues are tucked away at a variety of indoor stages around the square. AOS prides itself on a presentation of a variety of traditional music styles. You might have bluegrass or jazz on one stage, then Cajun, country,  rock, or old time on the next.
Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center
        Council on Aging/Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will sponsor the following events:
        “Bingo” - Each Monday Night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot - 60 People or more $500. 60 People or less $300. Public invited 12 years old and up.     
        Coming in September (Shelby Health Fair) - Friday, September 19, 8:00am - 11:00am, at COA/Neal Senior Center. Services include: Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Height and Weight, Wellness Education, Nurse Counseling, Carolina Healthcare Mobile Mammography and lots more will be offered.  Kings Mountain Little Theatre
        Kings Mountain Little Theatre will be hosting auditions for the upcoming production of “JUNIE B. JONES, JINGLE BELLS, BATMAN SMELLS”. The cast consists of 10 students ranging in ages from 14 to 20 years. They are expanding the age to 12 - 14 years to cast the character of Junie’s toy elephant. Due to another production rehearsing at theatre, auditions will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. Auditions will be on Sunday, September 21, 2-4pm and Monday, September 22 from 6-8pm. Callbacks on Tuesday, September 23. School performance dates are November 13 & 14 with morning shows at 9:30am. Disc Golf Tournament Fundraiser for South Mountain Christian Camp
         Disc Golf Tournament to be held at South Mountain Disc Golf Course Saturday, September 20. 3rd Annual Dale Sollars Autumn Classic is open to all disc golfers. A $25 event registration includes players pak, lunch and prizes. This is fundraiser for South Mountain Christian Camp presented by the Foothills Disc Golf Coalition and sponsored by PPG Industries and AE Global Media. Sponsors are still needed with door prizes and bag stuffer items. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting, visitors and new members are always welcome. Life Outreach Food & Clothing Ministry, Kings Mtn.
        Life of Worship Ministries, 403 Cherokee Street, Kings Mountain, NC, will be having a FREE Food Pantry and Clothes Closet for people in need of food and/or clothes. They are able to come once a month the 1st Wednesday thru the 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 11:00am - 1:00pm. They will need to bring their current ID. A Meal will be served every 4th Wednesday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. This month Hot Dogs with homemade Chili and Slaw, Chip, Pork n Beans, Cake and Lemonade, will be served. Donations accepted of cash/check (any amount) non-perishable foods, household and HBA items as well as clean, new or gently used clothes. Mental Health Association of Cleveland County
        Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance

       PWP meets every Monday night at 7:00 pm. at the Shelby Presbyterian Church for educational programs and at other times as scheduled for monthly social activities including: dances, plays, and concerts.         Kiwanis Club of Shelby is a group of professionals who are involved in the community and looking to change Cleveland County, one child at a time. This fundraising and project oriented club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Smoke on the Square - Private Dining room, 5 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC; or the 2nd Thursday evening of every month at 5:30pm at Dragonfly Wine Market, 101 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC.
