Nellie Godfrey Newton, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at Spartanburg Hospice Home.

Born in Gaffney, SC, she was the widow of Frank Newton and the daughter of the late William and Georgia Bartee Godfrey. Nellie formerly worked in Home Health. At age 67 she obtained her GED. She enjoyed feeding people, watching The Price Is Right, and getting her hair done every Friday. She enjoyed the mountains, spending time with her family and friends, and sitting in her rocking chair.

Surviving Mrs. Newton are her children, Noreen (Kenneth) Cash of Boiling Springs, SC, Tawanna (CE) Meadows of Gaffney, Susan (Phillip) Haney of Westminister, SC, and George (Susie) Gallman of Virginia; her brother, Max (Ann) Godfrey of Gaffney and her sister, Sue Miller of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her children, Teresa Tallent, Steven Gallman, and Lonnie Gallman.

Cryptside services will be Friday, July 7, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Clingman Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 1219 East Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC with Rev. Kenneth Cash officiating and music will be by Barry Duncan.

The family will be at the residence.
