Neoma Hanna Beamguard
Neoma Hanna Beamguard, 100, died peacefully in Shelby on Oct. 18 after a sudden illness.

She was born in Gastonia on Aug. 7, 1913, to James and Lilly Hanna. She was preceded in death by her dear husband Fred James Beamguard, beloved identical twin Moena Infinger, brothers Bob, Frank and Gilmer Hanna, and sister Edna Fox.

Neoma is survived by two children, Frieda Collins of Shelby and Jim Beamguard and his wife Julie of Brandon, Fl.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Martin of Gastonia, Jennifer Martin of Asheville, Matthew Beamguard of Brandon, Fl., and Andrew Beamguard of Apollo Beach, Fl.; one great-grandchild, Kelsey Lovett of Gastonia, and seven nieces and nephews.

She had taught nursery Sunday school for many years at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gastonia, where her mother was a charter member.

Neoma was an avid reader of history and biography, and recently read the Bible cover to cover. She wrote a memoir of her life that highlights pleasant memories and downplays the Great Depression and other hardships.

She enjoyed cooking with fresh fruit and vegetables, loved church and family gatherings, and was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. She never forgot to send a birthday card.

Neoma made beautiful hand-stitched quilts for family and friends for many years, and completed her last one this summer. She lived alone and cooked her own meals until days before her death.

The family thanks dedicated home aides Sylvia Burris and Sharon Hart for helping her live independently, and is grateful to the staff of Wendover Hospice for making her final days as comfortable as possible.

Neoma was much loved for her kindness, wisdom and generosity and will be deeply missed.

The Rev. Sylvia Wilhelm of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will conduct a graveside ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Woodside Cemetery in Clover, S.C.

Memorials can be made to Aldersgate UMC, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, N.C. 28152.
