Norris Dean Beatty age 66 died Saturday February 15, 2014 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. Born in Cleveland County on November 13, 1947, he was the son of the late Thurman Gold and Oree Terry Beatty.  Norris was a member of the Baptist Faith. He served in the Marines during the Vietnam Conflict. He was the owner/operator of Norris Beatty’s Fish Camp in Shelby. Norris went back to school and earned two Associate Degrees from Cleveland Community College, in Industrial Management and General Education. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Limestone College and his MBA in Diversified Learning from Columbia. Norris taught for Cleveland County for 23 years and spent the last 17 years before his retirement teaching 6th grade at Crest Middle School. Norris coached various sports for Crest Middle School and Shelby Parks and Recreation. Norris enjoyed fishing and he was a people person, who never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family before doing anything else.  In addition to his parents, Norris is preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Beatty.

Norris is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katrina Mellon Beatty; a son, Tyler Beatty of Charlotte; a daughter, Beth Butlak and husband Chris of Mt. Holly; three sisters, Deloris Curry and husband Kelly, Anita Wells and husband Johnny, and Rita Stafford and husband Rick all of Kings Mountain; a brother, Larry Beatty of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Janice Raines and husband Bobby of Lawndale; four grandchildren, Tucker Beatty, Hannah Butlak ,Makenna Butlak, and Parker Butlak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 18, 2014 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Double Shoals Baptist Church with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.
