North Carolina Farm Service Agency to Assist Community Math Academy Through Strike Force Initiative
(RALEIGH, NC) - USDA North Carolina Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Bob Etheridge, announced that FSA plans to assist the Community Math Academy in Cleveland County through the USDA Strike Force initiative.
Through the Strike Force initiative, USDA offers assistance through intensive community outreach efforts. The StrikeForce initiative includes counties with more than 20 percent poverty (according to American Community Service data) as determined by census tract data.
The Community Math Academy, with the help of the community, provides an educational resource for children in need. The Academy helps students learn and understand math concepts and is open every July for third through sixth grade students. The Community Math Academy relies on local businesses, the community, churches and education leaders to provide transportation, meals and teachers for the more than 135 students they serve each year.
This year, the Academy started offering their services at a third location.
The USDA Farm Service Agency is supporting the growth of the Community Math Academy by seeking private donations that will help fund the operation of the third location.
“FSA is reaching out to industry leaders in the community to gain their support to assist these children with their education,” said Etheridge. “The Community Math Academy is very valuable to our community and students involved in the program have an 84 percent pass rate on their end of year tests.”
