Opal Watson Packard

Mrs. Opal Watson Packard, age 91 of Mooresboro, NC, passed away December 4, 2015 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Packard and wife Tammy of Morganton, NC, three granddaughters, Kelly Packard Morris and husband Seth of Asheville, NC, Dana Packard Webb and husband Justin of Raleigh, NC, and Lindsey Packard and fiancé Gus Roberson of Greenville, NC, a great grandson, Packard Joseph Webb, a brother, Floyd Watson of Gaffney, SC, and a sister, Doris H. Hardin of Shiloh Community and a number of special nieces and nephews.

Born January 19, 1924 in Rutherford County, NC, Mrs. Packard was the daughter of the late Edward Malcom Watson Sr. and Lizzie Mae Abrams Watson and was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Hubert Clayton Packard, two brothers, Ed Mack Watson and Wallace Watson and a sister, Mary Hamrick.

Mrs. Packard graduated from Harris High School in Rutherford County and Blanton Business College in Asheville, NC. After graduation, she worked at Stonecutter Mills as a bookkeeper. Later she was appointed as U.S. Postmaster in Mooresboro by President Lyndon Johnson where she retired after ?? years of service. Opal was an active member of Sandy Run Baptist Church where she attended TEL Sunday School Class. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 pm Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Sandy Run Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Andrew Rawls. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Run Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 297, Mooresboro, NC 28114.
