Oscar Ted Norris

Mr. Oscar Ted Norris, 74, of 2302 Kingston Rd. Kingstown, NC departed this life on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his residence.  He was born in Polkville, NC on December 4, 1939 to the late Grover Cleveland Norris, Sr. and Mary Lou Lumpkins Norris Smith.

He was a member of Palmer Grove Baptist Church in Kingstown and Clover Hill Masonic Lodge #10 of Lawndale, NC.

Ted was many things: a husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor and friend; to know him was to love him! He was a man of many talents, you name it and Ted could ingeniously use his hands to create it.  His work ethnic was impeccable; through the hard work and perseverance he continuously displayed during his life there was a valuable lesson to be learned: Anything is possible to achieve when you believe and set your mind to it.

The “power of his hands” was seen in his crafts of carpentry, masonry and his green thumb in gardening.  Ted displayed knowledge that extended beyond school text books and was an unwavering supporter of education, strongly believing that knowledge is power.  Ted was very adventurous, he loved to travel. He was a man of outstanding character and his humorous, quick-witted personality could light up the darkest places.

“Family is important, there’s nothing like family”, an integral lesson he taught to his girls.  His strong belief in family was reflected in his marriage, in which he and Cam would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25, 2014.  He absolutely adored his daughter and granddaughters constantly imparting wisdom into their lives and the lives of others with whom he came in contact with until the very end of his time here on Earth.

Ted was a generous man with a kind heart, and a social butterfly that never met a stranger.  The impression that he made upon his family and community will never be forgotten.  He will be greatly missed and loved forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine sisters; three brothers and two sons.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Camellia Wilfong Norris; one daughter, Angela A. Norris of Winston-Salem, NC; three granddaughters, E. Danielle Burrus of Charlotte, NC, Calinda Burrus, Brianna Burrus and one future great-granddaughter all of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Eva Jennings (Bobby) and Kay Allen both of Kingstown and Isabel Rivers of Shelby, NC; two brothers, John Norris (Diana) and Woodrow “Woody” Norris both of Shelby; five sisters-in-law, Annie Wimbush of Washington, DC, Bettye Procope (Carlos) of Joliet, IL, Bertha Angel (Melvin), Elouise Izard, Shirley Nixon (Thomas) and one brother-in-law, Marshall Wilfong (Diane) all of Hickory and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Palmer Grove Baptist Church with Rev. James L. Smith officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church on Wednesday and at other times at the home.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
