Patricia Maxwell Archer

Patricia Maxwell Archer, 84, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, peacefully at her home. She was the wife of the late A. W. "Buck" Archer and a long-time resident of Shelby.

Born in Hollywood, California, she was the daughter of the late Robert McCully Maxwell and Catherine McClure Maxwell, both originally of Anderson, SC. She moved to Shelby during her junior year in high school. She attended Mary Washington College, the women's branch of the University of Virginia in Fredricksburg, VA, and graduated from Gardner Webb College with a degree in psychology. Later, Mrs. Archer took classes in interior design in New York and was an accomplished decorator in Shelby for many years.

She was an avid competitor on the tennis court and at the bridge table and was a wonderful cook and gardner.

She was an active member of the Junior Charity League in Shelby, the Shelby Cotillion Club, the Cleveland Country Club and was a member of the Shelby Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Archer is survived by two daughters: Dr. Ann Archer (Anderson Cobb) of Santa Fe, NM, and Kay Archer Price (Kim) of Gastonia and four grandchildren--Grayson Cobb of Aukland, New Zealand; Quincy Cobb of Oklahoma City, OK; Archer Price and Avery Price of the home. Other survivors are her sister Virginia Maxwell Grose of Columbia, SC, and one neice, Patricia Grose Williams of Louisville, KY.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday May 27, 2016. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland County, P. O. Box 2001, Shelby, NC 28151.
