Patsy Short Palmer

Patsy Short Palmer, age 90, died Monday June 9, 2014  at  Hospice Wendover in Shelby, NC.  She was born in Shelby on February 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Clyde and Alda Taylor Short. She graduated from Shelby High School and Peace Junior College in Raleigh, NC.  A life-long member of Central United Methodist Church, she was active in the life of the church for many years.  She was also a charter  member of the Literario Book Club and a former member of the Junior Charity League.  She volunteered at Cleveland Regional Medical Center and organized the first Candy Striper program there.  She enjoyed playing tennis, her bridge clubs, travel, and trips to the beach with her family.  Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Jack Palmer, Jr.  She is survived by her son John W. Hendricks III, and wife Sally of Shelby, her daughter Patricia Hendricks Rapp and husband Dave of Hilton Head Island, SC, grandchildren John W. Hendricks IV (Jay) and wife Leeann, David Rapp and wife Victoria, and Jennifer Rapp Sheridan and husband Matt, great-grandchildren Jackson and Cassie Hendricks, Raven Rapp, and Ava Sheridan, stepchildren Kerr Palmer and Ellen Palmer and step-granddaughter Kija Palmer.  Mrs. Palmer’s family would like to express appreciation to the very caring staff at Wendover House and Sterling House.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday June 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Collins officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June11, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory

Memorials, in lieu of flowers can be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150 or Wendover Hospice House, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150
