Paul V. Simpson

Brevard – Mr. Paul V. Simpson, 90, formerly of Chestnut St. passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Peak Resources in Cherryville.

 

Paul was born in Transylvania County, NC on June 16, 1922 a son of the late James Arvol Simpson and Effie G. McCrary Simpson.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brevard and was retired as a supervisor with Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation.  Paul loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to Gospel Music and in early years sang with his parents and siblings. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling and was the Western North Carolina Bowler of the Year in 1959.  He enjoyed all sports and especially the UNC Tarheels and Clemson Tigers.  He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports.  Paul was a family man and loved spending time and getting together with his family.  He was a loving and devoted husband and caregiver to Charlotte, his first wife and mother of their children, and his second wife Iva Lee Warren Simpson.  Paul was a very loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte Ann Cox Simpson, second wife, Iva Lee Warren Simpson; a daughter Paula Simpson King; sister, Cecile Rigdon and a brother Ray Simpson.

 

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Gary and Jane Simpson of Cherryville and a daughter, Gay Hunter Loy of Brevard; a sister, Katherine Bagwell of Brevard; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Simpson, Jennifer Simpson, Sara Simpson, Andrew Simpson, Rhyne Simpson, Nicole Ayubi (Norman), Leslie Mears (Derrick), Abbey Owen (Jeremy), Noah Hunter (Kaitlin) and Charlotte Woodbury (Brett) and five great grandchildren, Cameron, Kileigh and Kendall Mears, Isabella Ayubi and Brady Woodbury; also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in January and will be announced.
