Peggy Smart Alley
Peggy Smart Alley, age 78, of Chase Community, died May 16, 2014 at the Fair Haven Home.
 
     Born October 2, 1935 in Avondale, NC, she was a daughter of the late Addie J. Smart and Ruby Crawley Smart and married Jack Alley on December 21, 1957. Jack passed away on August 11, 1987.  Peggy graduated from Tri-High High School, class of 1954. She was also a graduate of the Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.  She worked as a Director of Nursing for thirty-seven years of which thirty-five years and ten months were at Fair Haven Home.  She left many close friends and co-workers. Peggy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mooresboro and ministered in the nursery, was in the choir, a Sunday School teacher, WMU and G.A. director. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. She was always concerned about the safety and happiness of all she knew.  Peggy was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels Basketball fan and enjoyed all sports.
 
     Survivors include her son, Marcus “Marc” Alley and companion, Dollie Brady of Spartanburg; brother, Joe Smart and wife, Peggy of  Ft. Worth, Texas; sister, Suzanne Cranford and husband, Dr. Jeff Cranford of Charlottesville, VA and daughter-in-law, Teresa Oliver. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Justin Silvers and wife, Jennifer, Adri Kimbrell and husband, Brandon, Timothy Berry and wife, Ashley and Hayden Oliver; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Silvers, Kaydence, Kannon and Kennadi Kimbrell; niece, Anna Grandpré and husband, Matt; nephew William Cranford and wife, Adrianne; great nephews and niece, Samuel, Eli and Catherine. She is also survived by many friends, cousins and adopted family which includes the Greene family of the Chase Community.
 
     Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Frashier and Reverend Scott Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
