Peter Ferriera

Mr. Peter Ferriera, 90, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Wendover Hospice House after a short illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannette Ferreira, and children, David, Delores, Diane, Debbie, Robert, Doris, and Valerie, twenty six grandchildren, and forty one great grandchildren.
Born June 4, 1926 in Cambridge, MA, Mr. Ferriera was the son of the late Antonio Ferreira and Delphina Lemos Ferreira and was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
During World War II, Peter served in the Navy aboard the USS Tingy, as a sonar man, in the Okinawa Operation. For his service he received the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, a Three Star Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Medal. For twenty years, peter served as Scout Leader in the Cumberland, RI area with many of his scouts attaining the Eagle Rank. Peter's talents were many: a skilled textile mechanic, a community volunteer, and a gifted choir member. He loved to paint nature scenes as gifts to his friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, July 29, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services in Shelby. A Service of Worship in memory and celebration of Peter will be held at Hoey Memorial United Methodist Church, 2300 Hoey Church Road, Shelby, on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2:30 pm. Interment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park immediately following the service.
