Phillip Wayne "Heavy" McCraw

Phillip Wayne "Heavy" McCraw, 51, of 123 Robinhood Drive, passed away Sunday, June 28th, 2015, at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Born in Gaffney, he was the loving husband of Ann Reynolds McCraw and the son of the late Kenneth McCraw and Phyllis Clary McCraw. Mr. McCraw was a loving person with a teddy bear's heart. He loved his entire family, but he didn't stop there. He loved people in general, from coaching little league football, to his involvement at Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, to working as a fireman for the City of Gaffney and Darlington Raceway, to helping the other emergency services as a dispatcher for E-911. He will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his wife, Mr. McCraw is survived by five children, Melanie Ann Carter and husband, Jim, of Irmo, Michael Stephen Carter of Greenville, Amanda Paige Sarratt and husband, Ike, of Gaffney, Brandi Michelle Shytle and Jesup Dillenger, of Gaffney, and Justin Blake McCraw and Kayla Bolf, of the home; one sister, Debe Hambright and husband, Joe, of Anderson, SC; one brother, Jason McCraw and wife, Jennifer, of Inman, SC; his step-mother, Martha McCraw, of Blacksburg; and nine grandchildren, Hannah Grace Shytle, Mary Delanie Carter, Peyton Ellen Sims, Zylie Ann Sarratt, Craig Solesbee, Isaac Sarratt, Austin and Abby Stevens, and Gabriel Sims.,

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by a brother, Keith McCraw.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30th, 2015, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services with full fireman's rites will be held Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Knotts, Rev. Eddie Bolin, Rev. Lucky Earls, and Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. The Gaffney City Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
