Rachel H. Hedrick

Rachel H. Hedrick, 95, beloved mother, the widow of Karl Holmes Hedrick, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was a resident of Peak Resources in Shelby, N.C.

A native of Boiling Springs, Rachel was born on September 4, 1919, and was the youngest daughter of Prof. J.D. Huggins and Bessie A. Huggins. She was a lifelong member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served on church committees. She enjoyed being involved in the community and loved politics, and once served as the Democratic Precinct Chairperson. She worked for many years at the Boiling Springs Drugstore where she always greeted everyone with a smile and made them feel like "they were her most favorite person."

Rachel and Karl were married for 59 years and had six children: Sonja Jones and her husband, Allen of Boiling Springs; Amelia Hamrick and her husband, Wakefield of Lexington; Karl H. Hedrick, Jr. and his wife, Jessie of Raleigh; Suzy Buckner and her husband, Clyde of Poplar Springs; James Dwyre Hedrick and his wife, Diann of Vale; and Gin-g Edwards and her husband, Fred of Summerville, S.C. She was also the proud grandparent of 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. The family will visit with friends and family following the service in the fellowship hall at the church to celebrate Rachel's life.
