Ralph Paul Townsend, 77, 443 Leagan Drive, died October 4, 2013, at home. Mr. Townsend was born to Mary Belle and Ralph T. Townsend in Chattanooga, TN, on October 16, 1935. He worked for many years for Daniels Construction Co. and retired from Duke Power Co. He loved sports especially baseball and football.
He is survived by his children and their families, Wayne and Carolyn Batchler; Jimmy, Wanda and Avery Townsend; Scott, Cleetie, Josh and Kristin Upchurch and Berkley Richards; Butch, Paulette, Haley and Mitchell Peeler; and Timmy Townsend. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Townsend; his sister, Hope Civil; and his niece Charlene Sanford. Mr. Townsend is also survived by his special friend, Polly McColl, and her family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Townsend; his sister, Mary Francis Walker; and his grandson, Tyler Townsend.
Services will be held at Broad River Baptist Church, Blacksburg, SC, October 6, 2013, at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. At other times, they will be at the home of Scott and Cleetie Upchurch.
