Rev. William Wayne Haynes

Rev. William Wayne Haynes, age 85, whose last home residence was in Lincolnton, NC went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2014 at the River Oaks Senior Care, Beaufort, SC.  His youngest daughter, Shea Haynes Werner, was with him.  He was born on June 15, 1928 in Cliffside, NC to the late Samuel E. and Elsie Ettie Pruette Haynes.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cloninger Haynes.  After the death of his wife, Joyce C. Haynes, he loved the family he and Evelyn Schronce Haynes blended. Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren survive from Evelyn’s previous marriage; however, Evelyn also precedes him in death.  Rev. Haynes (aka “Lefty Haynes”) enjoyed contractual years as a professional baseball player prior to accepting ordination as a minister at Macedonia Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC in 1955.  Subsequent to 1955, he succeeded in years of service at: Bethany Baptist Church, Grover, NC; Calvary Baptist Church, Lincolnton, NC; Glennview Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC; Pleasant Hill Baptist, Morganton, NC; Goodwill Baptist, Kernersville, NC; and Bannertown Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, NC.  He retired during a second term of service at Calvary Baptist Church, and he added to those 50 years of full-time work through interim ministerial work at: Friendly Chapel, North Brooke Baptist, and Lawings Chapel.  From his parents, siblings, and relatives in the mill village, he developed a memorable love and cadence of storytelling.  From his desire and commitment for learning the teachings of the Bible, he prepared himself and helped others to become good and faithful servants of the Lord and for a glorious life after life—in Heaven.
