Richard Hayne "Dick" Palmer
 Mr. Richard Hayne "Dick" Palmer, 85, of 128 Queen Road died
Thursday at Peak Resources in Shelby.

A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Valentine Jackson
Palmer and Ferris Patterson Palmer.  A graduate of Shelby High School,
UNC-Chapel Hill and Notre Dame Midshipman Naval Academy, he served his
country in the Navy during World War II achieving the rank of lieutenant
junior grade.  Mr. Palmer was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist
Church in Shelby.  

Owner of Dick Palmer's Gift Store in Shelby, he was an independent sales
representative for thirty-two years associated with the Butler Group in
Atlanta, Georgia.  Upon retirement he opened Wildbird Antiques in Fallston
until 2003.  

In addition to his parents, Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by two
brothers, Jack Palmer Jr. and Billy Palmer and a sister, Evangeline P. Bost.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of fifty years, Julia Jefferiess Palmer;
son, Richard Hayne Palmer Jr. and wife, Cindy of Stone Mountain, Georgia;
daughter, Anne Palmer Landry and husband, Mark of Lawndale; four
grandchildren, Julia, Luke, Joe and Hannah. He was also survived by many
loving and supportive family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at Sunset Cemetery in
Shelby with Rev. Craig Langston officiating.  The family will greet friends
immediately following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Central United Methodist
Church, 200 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150 or to the charity of the
donor's choice.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Peak Resources of Shelby for their
love and compassionate care.
