Robert "Bob" Eugene Wylie, Jr., 91, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Betty Sue White Wylie, died Saturday morning, April 16, 2022, at Oaks Assisted Living in Savannah, Georgia.

Our precious father, Robert E. Wylie peacefully passed on April 16, 2022 in the morning. His son Calvin walked into his room as Bob took his last breath. Family and friends say Bob was waiting for one of his children to be by his side before he transitioned into his heavenly father's loving arms.

Born in Blacksburg, SC, on March 9, 1931, to his parents, Robert E. Wylie, Sr., and Pauline "Polly" Carpenter Wylie. He was the eldest of five sons. He married the love of his life, Betty Sue White, his high school sweetheart, and they
remained married for 64 years. Betty passed in 2004. He "wooed" his gal, Betty Sue, as a teen and also got on the good side of his future mother-in-law Mattie White by milking her cow every morning before he went to school.

When Bob and his next in line brother, John Gilbert, were teens they played a prank on their dad by devising some sort of electrical shock when their dad touched the family fence. Their dad did get a "jolt" and the two boys were given some sort of "jolt" as punishment afterwards. This was the beginning of his lifelong a career as an electrician.

Bob started out as a lineman climbing poles and working his way up to be the Plant Electrician for E.I. DuPont and the electrician for the GM Corporation in Delaware. It was at GM where he retired.

Dad loved his wife, his children, and his grands. He also loved his great-grands but didn't get the opportunity to see them much as they were spread out all over the country and in his older age didn't get to meet them all, however, he loved them all. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior and was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Carney's Point, NJ. His biggest enjoyment in life was his family, his church family, and his work family. Bob was brought up to work hard on his farm and was the type of person when anyone called out from work he was happy to fill in. He would volunteer to go in for snow days and any type of work emergencies. Many years before retiring from GM he would work 7 days a week without any absences or lateness.

After retiring and spending a few years in Penns Grove, he decided to move to Savannah, Georgia to be with his daughters Dianne and Janet due to a stroke. His son, Roger, would take care of the business for the old homestead in Penns Grove and his son Calvin helped in cleaning the house before moving south.

Bob had a happy and full life when he moved to Savannah and staying in assisted living facilities. He spent more years at The Oaks Assisted Living Facilities than any other resident after he moved in. His daughters Janet and Dianne noticed he loved to sing as loud as possible at the church services which he attended faithfully, (unless he wasn't feeling well), and all the Friday social events - lots of great entertainment. Janet loved to sing and dance around her dad while spinning him in the wheelchair during many entertaining times.

For many years in Savannah, Bobby, (Bob's best friend and helper), and Janet Jeter, would take their dad out every Friday to the local movie theater accompanied by another resident and close friend, John King Heard. He also attended church with his daughters respective churches as often as possible. He enjoyed many other activities with in assisted living homes. He especially enjoyed bingo and playing Scrabble with Dianne, Janet, and Bobby. The family enjoyed such great times with him while in assisted living facilities in Savannah and made incredible memories with him. Bob's family appreciates the kindness of many staff members and also strangers who showed their dad love and kindness.

His grandson, Jonathan Walton, was a lifesaver for the family during the hardship COVID-19 put upon all of us. During the times of lock down at his assisted living facility, his grandson Jonathan was grandfathered in as an employee to continue to be dad's private sitter due to the fact he sat privately with him for over 10 years. The peace
of mind this gave the entire family for a family member to be with him while many elderly folks (sadly) were not given during the scary times of COVID-19 was enormous.

Survivors include his children, Patricia Dianne Walton (David), Calvin Neal Wylie (Lorraine), Roger Wayne Wylie (Lonnie), and Janet Lea Wylie (Bobby); 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Brent, Cherith, Chad, Jenna, Amber, and Shane. He also had 10 great-grandchildren. Bob's siblings, brothers, Alvin Wylie (Joanne), Raymond "Ray" Wylie (Shirley), Paul Wylie (Daisy, deceased), and John Gilbert Wylie, deceased (Francis, widower), as well as many nephews and nieces.

There will be a small memorial service included with the church service at The Oaks Assisted Living, 7410 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Visitation (2:00 P.M.) and Funeral Services (3:00 P.M.) will be at Rock Springs Baptist Church, Blacksburg, SC on April 29, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, family prefers plants that can be replanted or a donation to any good charity or bible church of your choice.
