Robert "Bob" Helms

SHELBY- Robert "Bob" Helms, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Union County, he was the son of the late Herman Franklin and Dorothy Godfrey Helms. He was member of Sharon United Methodist Church. He was the best, most loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He loved working and was a hard worker but most of all he loved working in the yard and growing his tomatoes. When he was looking for a wife, he had to go all the way to Concord, NC to find the most perfect one for him, he found her there and married her. He was a veteran, serving his country proudly in the United States Army. His wife prayed for Gods will to be done with his health, and God answered by giving them 19 extra days in the hospital for family and friends to visit and have a time of bonding and when God saw it was time, He called him home. Those 19 days was preparing his loved ones for his departure home.

PRECEDED: in addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Rick Helms, who only died several weeks ago.

SURVIVED: His is survived by his sweet and loving wife of 48 years, Jean Baucom Helms of the home; two beautiful daughters, in whom he adored, Kristin Helms Dyck and husband Kevin of Charlotte, Angela Helms Lane and husband Allen of Inman, SC; one sister, Tammi helms Brewer and husband Gregg of Monroe; one brother, Jerry "Whitey" Helms and wife Jennifer of Fripp Island, SC; two grandchildren, Cami and Madi Dyck who was the light of his life; several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A Celebration of Life service will be held, 3:30 pm Friday in the Chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby.

VISITATION: The family will greet friends at the end of the service as attendees leave the service.

CLERGY: Rev. Tim McCarn will officiate the service.
