Robert Decatur Warlick
Robert Decatur Warlick, 92, of 322 Eastridge Drive, Belwood, NC, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Peak Resources (old Century Care) in Shelby.

He was born in Cleveland County, on July 9, 1920 to the late Walter Theodore Warlick and Lessie Lawrence Downs Warlick.  

He worked as a vocational agriculture teacher in Union County, NC until entering the Navy during World War II, from 1944 to 1946.  Mr. Warlick then returned to teaching agriculture at Belwood, Fallston, and finished his teaching career at Burns High School in 1978.

During his teaching years, many of his FFA teams competed in the local, state, and even national competitions. Robert loved working with his "boys and girls."

He was instrumental in the rechartering and incorporation of the Town of Belwood in 1978. He then served as the first mayor from 1978 to 1998.  

He was a member of Norman's Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and deacon chairman.

A farmer to the core, Robert is probably best known in the apple orchard. He served as past president of the NC Apple Growers Association.

Mr. Warlick also served on numerous civic organizations, including the Cleveland County Fair Board of Directors, BB&T Board of Directors, Upper Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions Club.

Robert served also as a past Boy Scoutmaster for Troop 100 for many years, but what brought him great pride is that all four of his grandsons obtained their Eagle Scout.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Blanche Elizabeth Peeler Warlick; daughter, Robbie Dixon; and great grandson, Nathaniel Paul Dixon.

He is survived by two daughters, Sheila London of Monroe and Susan Jolley and husband, Mark of Belwood; son-in-law Ralph Dixon, Jr. and wife, Myra of Boiling Springs; three brothers, Walter Warlick, Jr. of Vale, Ray Warlick, Sr. of Vale, and Troy Warlick of Casar; four sisters, Mary Lou Davis of Shelby, Cecelia Miller of Lenoir, Margaret Harbison of Commerce, TX, and Phyllis Miller of Huntersville; six grandchildren, Chris Dixon and wife, Farrah, Seth London and wife, Sarah, Heather Dixon Wolking and husband, Alan, Rob London and wife, Karla, James Jolley and wife, Emily, and Sarah Jolley; eight great grandchildren, Cam Dixon, Kenan Dixon, Andrew London, Jack London, Emma Cate London, Cy London, Karsyn London, and Kate Wolking.
