Robert Lewis Bess, age 98, of St. Mark's Church Road passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1918 in Gaston County to the late William and Birdie Jane Mauney Bess. Lewis was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime self-employed dairy farmer for Bess Dairy.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Woolley Bess; son, Robert "Bobby" Lewis Bess, Jr.; and sisters, Elsie Hord and Gladys Sellers.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Bridges(Larry), Rutherfordton; daughter-in-law, Angie Bess, Cherryville; grandchildren, Tina Witherspoon, Cheryl Campbell (Todd), Susan Hamilton, Cindy Rickman (Andy), Lisa Helms, and Robert Bess III; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
