Robert Mike Lowery, Jr.

Robert Mike Lowery, Jr., 63, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Kings Mountain Hospice House.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Carolyn Reinhardt Lowery and the late Robert Mike Lowery, Sr.  Along with his father, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Lowery Cavalier.  Graduating from Shelby High School in 1967, Mike attended Cleveland Community College where he received a degree in engineering, business administration and police/criminal science.  Mike worked for the City of Shelby as an engineer and retired after 30 years of service in the operations center.  He served his country honorably as a Lance Corporal in the Marines during the Vietnam War from 1968 – 1970.  He retired as a Sgt. Major with the Army National Guard after 30 years and was with the Shelby Police Reserves for 30 years.  Mike loved uniforms and considered it his honor to serve and was prideful of being able to wear them.  He was also a member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202 AF and AM where he served as past master.  Mike was also a member of the Scottish Rites, member of the Oasis Temple in Charlotte, a member of the Piedmont Shrine Club and on the beautification committee for the City of Shelby.  Mike was a member of Westview Baptist Church where he served as an usher.  He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time completing tasks in his outside building.  He treasured the times he was able to travel to numerous countries during his time in the service.

Mike is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki Hamrick Lowery; daughter, Amy Lowery Marlowe and husband Paul of Shelby; sisters, Debbie Lowery Gainey and husband Stan of Gastonia and Cindy Lowery of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Brandi Johnson and Steven Johnson of Michigan, Keely Bryant and Bryson Marlowe of Shelby; and many special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Westview Baptist Church.  The Rev. Rick Bowling will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow the service in Sunset Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202 and the Shelby Police Department and the Marine Corps League NC Foothills Detachment #1164 will provide Policy and Military Honors.  At other times the family will be at 416 Franklin Avenue in Shelby.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Westview Baptist Church, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, NC 28152 or Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
